road markers/survey markers in the country

Has anybody ever noticed this marker near ingliston on Ironbark Road. It’s also  visible from the Railway. Always been curious about it

Hi Gazza,

That looks like a triangulation/trig station, which is a point used in geodetic surveying. There would probably be a couple of others within sight of the trig station, which surveyors would use to note bearings and measurements across fixed distances.
