Stage 5 of M37 Newcastle Inner City By-pass

Hi
Does anyone know when the Stage 5 of the Newcastle Inner City By-pass is opening, I know work started last year but I can't seem to find an opening date. Does anyone know anything or not.

As far as the website goes the pedestrian bridge was being built as part of early works. There was funding in the federal budget for construction of the actual bypass so it may finally get going

It will be good to finally see this completed. Would be good to
see the final tie in with Pacific Hwy (A43) at Sandgate too. The
reservation has been there forever.

They expressly declined to construct a grade separated northern interchange when the Sandgate section was constructed.
I'd have though removing the frontage properties and at grade intersections in the original section would be highest priority. Then possible southward extension

I must have missed that. I agree separating traffic from
properties should be a priority. And given how backed up the turn
from Pacific Hwy onto Sandgate Rd gets in peak, I would've thought
they'd be all over getting that sorted out

That is a huge bottleneck. At least for the least bit, do JRD/M4 style intersection. (if that's a thing)

Finally contract awarded
Contract awarded to build fifth stage of Newcastle Inner City Bypass
A design and construct contract has been awarded to Fulton Hogan Construction Pty ahead of the construction of the fifth section of the Newcastle Inner City Bypass getting underway later this year.
This section of works will deliver the ‘missing link’ of the bypass between Rankin Park and Jesmond, meaning a faster, safer commute for locals who will be able to bypass 11 sets of traffic lights along this notorious stretch of road.
The contract will also involve delivering an early works package, on Lookout Road and McCaffrey Drive, to enable Fulton Hogan to accelerate work around the southern interchange later this year.
Major work is expected to start in October this year with the first cars expected to drive along the new bypass in 2025.
The $450 million project is jointly funded on an 80:20 basis by the Australian and New South Wales governments.
Transport for NSW is working closely with NSW Health to ensure the project aligns with work on the John Hunter Health Innovation Precinct and to provide a second access road to the hospital campus.

Have they said anything about what they’ll do to the small strip of suburban road between McCaffey Drive and Myall Road? It will be freeway-grade on both ends but this will still be a standard suburban-grade road with traffic lights. Unless that’s part of a future plan to upgrade the intersections of Cardiff Road and Carnely Ave
