Hi all

I recently had to do a drive to Goulburn from Parkes. A week prior I
had driven up to Parkes from Shellharbour which took me on the
Macquarie Pass, then the Hume through to Yass, the Lachlan Valley Way
to Cowra, and then onto Parkes. On this occasion, this road has always
got my curiousity, and the only way to satisfy it was to do it while
the opportunity presented itself!

You begin at Hobby Yards Rd at Blayney through to Hobby Yards, where
the road then becomes Goulburn Rd after the township of Trunkey Creek.
From there through to the turnoff for the Abercrombie caves is very
nicely sealed highway standard road, however that immediately changes
after the turnoff, where the road then
becomes unsealed and rocky and rugged in many sections (Contrasted to
sealed sections) through to the township of Tuena.

After Tuena, there are followed by many sections of unsealed road as
well, through to Binda, where the road is then sealed for the rest of
the trip to Crookwell and Goulburn.

It's a challenging road that requires alot of care and patience, but
well worth the drive, and plenty of interesting roadsign paraphernalia
enroute. I now wonder why townships like Tuena and Trunkey Creek
manage to survive and why one would live there!

As I wasn't in a position to be able to stop and photograph some of
the vintage signs I saw, the only sign I captured was this, at the
beginning of every unsealed section:

Orange to Crookwell took me a straight two hours by this road, which
wasn't particularly bad for my liking. Has anyone else done this drive
and care to share their accounts?

Cheers
Maikha
