The last of the traffic signals with borderless target boards in the ACT have been replaced (corner of Hindmarsh Dr (B52), Canberra Av (B52 / unnumbered) and Newcastle St at Fyshwick). The one in Greenway and the one in Lyons were replaced a few months ago.
The entire junction has been converted to LED, with Braums lanterns.
This means the only evidence you will now see of full black borderless target boards in use on ACT signals is in photos. The only states / territories using that style of signal now is Victoria, South Australia and Northern Territory.

It's a pity to see the last of the borderless signage being replaced. I can vividly remember the borderless incandescent signals on the Federal Highway/Sitrling Avenue intersection in Watson - that might have been the first set of signals driving in to Canberra on the Federal Highway when I was growing up and was a good indication that you were in the ACT (other than the border sign of course).

I was interested to see that Canberra is holding on to a fair number of halogen signals. It's been years since I saw a set in NSW, I think Davis mentioned previously that there was a line item in one of the budgets to upgrade all remaining halogens to LED.

Hi Vincent, and everyone else!

Yeah I remember that feeling as well, coming in from Sydney.

I can confirm there is still a few sites left with Halogen signals but they're quickly getting upgraded. That said, the traffic lights in Curtin are a weird mix of Halogen pedestrian signals with LED traffic heads, but that upgrade was done some years ago. Which leads me onto the next curiosity. Roads ACT have been also replacing most of the Aldridge LED signals with Braums ones, quite a few junctions have been swapped out during the last few months.

I wasn't entirely sure what the difference was between Braums and Aldridge, but I've seen those pop up in new NSW installations as well. No intersections have been retrofitted (to my knowledge), but what I have noticed is that the Braums signals seem to age faster than the Aldridge signals do.

Consider this example on the Great Western Highway in Lithgow: https://goo.gl/maps/3RCvVeyN5AS71XNK6 - it's not the best image, but you can see at the top of the 4-aspect and 6-aspect signals, the paint starting to grey. At this stage, those signals would have been in place for less than 12 months. In the time since that StreetView imagery was captured, it's gotten worse. By way of comparison, the Aldridge signals I've seen have held up remarkably well, even when being hit by direct sunlight.

Here's another example of faded Braums signals at Glenbrook: https://goo.gl/maps/hrPn9XnchaayWehL9

The common link here is that these signals and the example I sent through yesterday both face west and get the afternoon sun, but still interesting that the target boards have faded as quickly as they have.

Yeah I have noticed this with the Braums target boards also. However the LED array they use is nicer in appearance than the Aldridge.
