Tonkin Highway update - Perth Airport

Hi All,

A couple of newsworthy items recently regarding the Tonkin Highway.

First off, a new junction was opened last night, connecting Tonkin Highway with Dunreath Drive (the road which runs inside the Airport land between the two terminals). It's apparently located north of Leach Highway, although the map that Perth Airport provided is of absolutely no use - it's as far away from 'to scale' as you can possibly get.

I had no idea this road was even been built, there was no trace of any roadworks last time I was out that way although I don't use that section of road very frequently. I'll check it out in a couple of weeks for new signs etc.

The other item is that the latest plan for the 'Gateway' upgrades has been released - there's a Community Update you can download from here:

One interesting thing is the 'wrong way' exit on Tonkin Highway southbound approaching Roe Highway - you exit Tonkin Highway onto the on-ramp, then you have to exit right to turn left towards Midland. It's a little bit unusual - I wonder how many idiots will get confused by that! Great solution though to the problem of weaving traffic between Abernethy Road and Roe Highway. 

I suppose Main Roads doesn't expect any of this Gateway stuff to go ahead in the near future though, as the new junction onto Tonkin Highway wouldn't have been built...

I drove past that bit of road about 6 times when I was there. I didn't
mention the works as I'd assumed you were already aware of it. Oops.
That said, I was expecting a left-in/left-out, not a full blown t-
junction.
