Hey guys,

I found this really good pic of the Calga interchange on Sydney-Newcastle Fwy, before it was butchered for the extension of the current alignment.

First link didn't work mate.

The second link - that looks like a mark-up for a promotional photo. Pretty cool!

Both linked to the same image anyway. But yeah it's nicely detailed. I noticed searching the library records of Hornsby Library they've got some promotional stuff from various openings / events from the freeway there but not for loan.

Ignore that previous email.

I can't seem to figure out how this old interchange overlayed on the current one?! Would someone be able to provide a map or a link to one?

Thanks.

Conrad

I've marked the original overpass bridges on Google maps via the link below

http://g.co/maps/7xr9q

You can see how the original expressway alignment (from the south)
transitioned here onto Peats Ridge Road carrying northbound through
traffic.

Prior to the Calga-Somersby section of the F3 (ie sweeping off to the
right) which opened in 1986, Gosford and lower Central Coast traffic
exited at Calga and travelled the old Pacific Highway winding down
over the low Mooney bridge then back up over Kariong hill.

Northbound through traffic travelled on the Peats Ridge Road loop
which rejoined the Pacific Hwy north of Ourimbah.

See http://www.ozroads.com.au/NSW/Freeways/F3/f3.htm for more info.

There's a pic of the southern approach to the interchange here

I did this, very simply, in 2004:

Thanks Lachlan and davis.

I realise why I was getting confused, because I was thinking that the old Peats Ridge Road South (link below) was part of the pre 1994 interchange. That the 'Calga Interchange' had undergone 2 major reconstructions, not just the one.

Its not until I looked at ozroads at the 1964 interchange that I figured out that it was only used back then.

That area has seen a lot of work, roadwise over the years, but most of it happened during the 1960s and then the 80s. The Calga area is vastly different to what it was prior to the freeway being built, simply because of the road network
