Hi everyone,

I only learnt this from a Facebook status update of a friend who is
not a roadgeek at all. But Main Road 92, the road which links Nowra,
Jervis Bay & the Lower Shoalhaven with Braidwood, Canberra & the
Capital Country is now fully sealed. There will be festivities
tomorrow run by the Nerriga Sports & Progress Association.

http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/constructionmaintenance/majorconstructionprojectsregional/southcoast/mr92/

This is good news for Nowra and Braidwood and the Southern Illawarra
especially. Getting from the Illawarra/Shoalhaven to Canberra is a
major pain - you have the choice of 15km/h hairpin bends on the
Illawarra Highway, or a well-constructed road that goes in the
opposite direction (Picton Road), or an inconvenient doubling back
from Bomaderry to Moss Vale.

I hope that a certain South Coast roadgeek gets the chance to check
this road out some time soon. ;-)

Regards,
Brad.

Hey Brad,

Thanks for the heads up. I won't be able to go this weekend or the next, so it will have to be late this month or in November.

I don't get up that way too often, because it's over 3 hours to Nowra from here. But I will make a point of checking out, once I put the new brakes on the car.

I saw some photos of that road on the RTAs website, not a bad job they did.

Do we know if it's going to get a route number? I don't usually take photos of non-numbered routes, except in the ACT

So you wouldn't take photos of the Inner City Bypass east of the Clem
Jones Tunnel, or the Cross City Tunnel, or a whole host of Adelaide
arterials pre-1997? :P

In my opinion, if it's a gazetted Main Road, it's fair game.

Hey Brad

I only take numbered routes, ie. those with a shield, because anything else doesn't fit the format of the site. I see what you're saying though.

When I started the site I had no idea about internal classifications for roads, and assumed the SR, NR, etc was the number for that route. But these days I am wiser. But I also don't want to get too heavy on explaining all the details on every aspect of road maintenance and internal classifications.

There's still some unsealed pavement between Nerriga and Braidwood.

There's the short cut via Oallen Ford and Tarago which is along local roads which may have been fully sealed by the Council so you might be able to get from Nowra to Canberra on sealed pavement now...

Hey I snap just about any road I travel on a daily basis...and I intend to find a way of including each and every one.

Won't have a route number as it is still a Regional Road and no signage along it makes any provision for route marker.

Drove the Nowra - Nerriga - Tarago leg via Oallen Ford yesterday. Some
notes:

- Nowra to Nerriga is fully sealed. The section through Sassafras was
the last part to open.
- The Bulee Gap section is limited to 60km/h, quite steep for about
5km, also features a few slow vehicle lanes.
- A 5km section on Oallen Ford Rd remains unsealed.
- Not much new signage on the route bar signage that looks to have
been installed by the NPWS for Tianjara Falls and lookout.
- Didn't drive the Nerriga - Braidwood leg, unsure as to the condition
through there.

Thanks for the update. I would imagine we wont expect to see too many changes to the signs until the works have ended?
