Hi everyone

It seems that Outer Sydney Orbital will be signposted as M10 and not M9 to prevent duplicate No's.

See Page 22

Seems like no info has came for the M6, pehaps it'll be M16?

I'd be surprised if it's not signposted as M1 - hopefully we don't have another NorthConnex situation.

then what will the rest of M1 be numbered?

Stage 1 is a glorified on/off-ramp to the M8, so it will probably be signed 'M8' northbound and 'To A1' or 'M1' southbound. The rest of the project replaces the A1 so I'd be surprised if it's not signposted as M1.

I think it should be M16, and then M1 once it's fully finished.

I'm also surprised that the M10 had leaked out, and not really been identified until now. So traffic reports in the future will be like.

"Clear on the M4, on the M8 slow eastbound, a car accident on the M2 towards the M6 (NCX) and also clear on the M5, M7 and M12. On the M31, widening works causing delays, road works on the M10 causing delays and finally on the M16 (F6 Extension) traffic on the exit towards Princes Highway towards Kogarah"

Hi Sam

Thinking about it, I don't think it'll be M1. This will be way too confusing.

Well it used to be the F5, and also some of the internal management documents still referred to that stretch as F5 even after alpha implementation. It's obviously a hangover from those days.

This has been a month now but the Artist Impression looks pretty nice: https://www.transport.nsw.gov.au/corridors/oso2

Ooh, I wasn't aware of this project. A handy link, and a nice way to get the trucks out of the Appin town centre.

Sadly no connection to Princes Motorway though

Interesting find. While its been pretty quiet since the initial OSO corridors announcement (and subsequent backpedal), there is obviously a lot of work going on in TfNSW behind the scenes.

The Appin Road corridor would make the most sense for a link to the Illawarra - and this little section would make a very useful Appin Bypass in the short-term.

Wonder what planning work is being done on the northern link to the Central Coast?

Personally, I find the link from the M10 to the Central Coast unnecessary. Instead they could extend the WSO (M7) further north and money and time saved.

I'm curious about the connection to the M4 though (assume that's in Stage 1), especially if it's between Kent Rd and Mamre Rd, as there's barely any room between those two interchanges.

Well, This "Stage Two" consultation presents "Stage One" as going through to Richmond Rd. But it's more that this is "Outer Sydney Orbital Corridor Study Stage Two" rather than "Outer Sydney Orbital Stage Two Corridor Study". Poor nomenclature.

one thing that is lacking is a proper motorway to the Blue Mountains

It will require braided ramps and C-D roads I'd say.

Are there any plans to connect the OSO with Picton road? Would be nice to drive like LA or Orlando down south, especially if Picton Road ever gets duplicated and becomes more like  Picton Motorway

The Outer Sydney Orbital Stage 2 corridor investigation is identifying long-term transport connections between Western Sydney and the Illawarra-Shoalhaven region.

Investigations for the Outer Sydney Orbital Stage 2 will be undertaken in three sectors:

Sector 1: between the Hume Motorway and Appin Road, south east of Appin Village and between the Hume Motorway and Picton Road.

Sector 2: Appin and Picton Road corridors for potential upgrade through WaterNSW’s water catchment area (Metropolitan Special Area).

Sector 3: Illawarra Connections – a potential new Illawarra Escarpment crossing.
