M12 motorway is opening this Saturday, 14 March 2026.

As per the article the M7 / M12 interchange won't be open until later in the year.

Hi again,

I went for a drive on the opened section today in both directions.

Here are some pictures I took from my dashcam.

I started from the Northern End Rd, headed east, back west, then east via the WSI Airport link (Warrami Dr) and back east again.

I found that at either end at both the Northern Rd and Elizabeth Dr, there is a lack of signs referring to the M12 Motorway itself.

It is only when you reach the intersection itself you know you are at the M12 intersection (at least on the Northern Rd approach).

Heading west from Elizabeth Dr, you only see the first mention of the M12 Motorway right near the M7 interchange.

It was nice to drive at 100 km/h through mostly rural land within Sydney and have very little traffic.

Bit of a nitpick but I don’t like how the focal point from the northern road is only WSI, but from the Elizabeth Dr / M7 end, the focal point is Penrith and WSI. By that logic, this end should show the focal points WSI and Liverpool.

Makes it seem like the M12 only goes to the airport, which is false

Exactly. No mention of M7 either on any of the guide signs, even though the interchange isn’t open there doesn’t seem to be any provision on any sign to add it. Surely that’s important?

Choosing focal points was always going to be hard, there definitely should've been A9 and M7 on the RDs. It looks like they've done a great job of building it. Is it only 100 speed limited?

Yes it is only 100. It's a short motorway and is consistent with the M7.
