A2 is now uncovered down to Norwest Boulevard.

My update -

A4's uncovered at end of Victoria Rd this morning. Can't say how widespread this is, I only go as far as the Allan Street exit.

A1 all complete between Gore Hill and M1, including all the signage on Gore Hill Fwy.

A3 is all done (at least between A1 and Epping Rd). There's still MR2 coverplates at M2 and a small one on a southbound RD sign near Pymble.

M1 completed (at least between A49 and A1) - but there's a small handful of signs still needing M1 plates fitted, most noticeably big ones approaching Calga interchange southbound. There are still MR1 coverplates at end of M1.

All signs are now showing M31 and HUME MOTORWAY (on distance signs) except for one or two signs which are still showing MR5 northbound between the first Campbelltown Road on ramp to the M5/M7/A28 intersection. I also noticed that the END MR5 MOTORWAY, START NH31 HUME HIGHWAY is still standing southbound after the A9/B69 off ramp at Narallen.

Alpha Progress from 24-25 Aug

Hume Hwy from Yarra to Sutton Forest, M31 on most fingerboards and side road ID signs.
Illawarra Hwy has uncovered A1 / M1 at Albion Park Rail on all signs.
No new unveilings on Princes Mwy, Illawarra Hwy.
Some M1 coverplates on old 90s signs in Dapto approaching Fowlers Rd, some SR60s covered with blanks, others not, in the Dapto area.
No alphas on Federal Hwy
No M31s on mainline signs between Yarra and Sutton Forest
B73 removed from roundabout signs in Moss Vale.

No pix, I'm not going to bother till they've all be unveiled.

I went down General Holmes Drive today. All signs from Bestic Street to President Ave have been cover plated  or cover plates removed to show A1, not sure about anything on President Ave or Princes Highway because I continued down The Grand Parade.

On my drive back, I noticed that General Holmes Drive was signed as A1 just south of Bestic Street (uh oh) and a big face palm - a distance sign just north of the Botany Road onramp on Southern Cross Drive had been cover plated with an A1 marker. I hope they fix this up before the contractors begin cover plating the gantry signs on General Holmes Drive with A1.

A9  - Parker St/The Northern Road is done between Penrith and Windsor with the odd one still with Metroad 9 coverplates.

I saw a similar thing last night on southbound Carlisle Avenue in Minchinbury. The first sign you see has "to M4" however the next sign not so far down the road has a "to Metroad 4" still on it.

Noticed a couple of uncovered A1s in the Kiama area this morning:
- Gipps St westbound approaching Princes Hwy (x2);
- RD sign southbound from the southern Kiama interchange (Weir St/South Kiama Dr).

Might get some snaps tomorrow.

A40s have been uncovered between A28 and A2/M2 over the last 24 hours.

A2 is now fully uncovered between A40 and A9.

However at the intersection of A40/M2/A2 only the A2s have been uncovered, the M2 shields still have the MR2 shields on them.

Nice to hear.

How many more routes in Sydney need to be changed over now? I am considering mapping out a few routes to take in over a weekend and want to concentrate on close clusters / regions of routes to make the job more efficient.

Last night when I returned from Melbourne, I saw the "To M4 Motorway" signs had been uncovered at the A44/A9 intersection. No love yet for A44 or A9 at that intersection.

Having read other threads, I now partly understand why but it is very haphazard.

There's been a bit more progress on my usual haunts (which is pretty much only the M1/A1 and A6):

-A1 has been fully signed from Waterfall to the A1/A6 intersection
-The M1 is making a progressively greater presence day by day, but the majority of this has been southbound. Since I've last reported, the southbound AD before the Appin Road exit is now showing M1 and B65, the southbound RD past the Bulli Road exit is showing M1, the southbound AD before the Picton Road exit is now showing M1 and B88, and the fingerboards at the intersection of Mount Ousley Road and the Princes Motorway are showing M1 and 'Princes Motorway'.

A couple of things with this: I'm a little surprised that the Mount Ousley Road nameplates weren't removed when the NRs were - so far as I know, they're alpha ready. With regards to the southbound AD before Picton Road particularly, its position means it gets a lot of headlight glare of a nighttime, and this renders the yellow text of the alpha virtually useless. The only saving grace is having the white border around the yellow text, alerting you to the fact that the beginning/terminus of a significant route is coming up. I'm not sure if I'm going against the status quo here, but I've been a fan of the white border since the alphas' inception.

I'll have more info as it comes to hand.

Vincent

So nice to see these old style 'modern' signs still in place. The coverplates look really good on them, and the signs definitely looks less cluttered without the white road name patch. These are pretty much the only signs of this style left in Sydney.

I've got the easy part of taking the pics & sending selected pics to this group. All of my pics are on Flickr (ID: erkpod).

The guys doing websites would have no shortage of material for a while!

I'm back to my place of employment after a couple of weeks off tomorrow. I'll be interested to see if the MR4 plates have been removed on the A6 near Auburn McDonalds.

But the main thing I'm looking forward to now is the uncovering of the A44.

Hi Erk,

Would you consider releasing some future pics (or even some past ones) without the "no commercial use" disclaimer. That way they could be used on Wikipedia and similar sites. :)

Upto you of course, they are your pics after all! :)

I've been meaning to add to the list for ages, the southbound RD sign approaching the M5 on Fairford Road has M5 alphas showing, as well as 'e/E-Toll' tags.

The Princes Motorway is progressively showing M1, but I'd refer you onto the thread Mitch started for photographic evidence.

That RD sign (see attachment) was installed in April 2011 and the e/E-toll shield was uncovered. Interestingly none of the alphatised M5 signs have the e/E-Toll shield on them - even with signs that have the TOLL coverplate.

The M5 approach signs on The River Road at Revesby also have M5 alphas showing.

A4 is fully uncovered between Strathfield and Anzac Bridge as of yesterday.

There is still no sign of A44.

I have also attached an A3 sign off the M4.

Hey guys, just another update from Peter who is still in northern NSW.

- M1/A1 from Ballina to QLD is partially rolled out only, with new coverplates being installed during the week
- B62 has appeared on the A1 signs at Bangalow, but still nothing in Bangalow itself or in Lismore
- B60 complete from Ballina to Tenterfield
- A1 complete from Woodburn to Grafton with the exception of 1 sign
- no sign of B91 except in Grafton

I'm presuming that a proper re-signing of the M5 as the South Western Motorway won't happen for another 10 years when tolling ceases?

heh you think tolling will cease one day:

Transurban are the king of the unsolicited government proposal - "just let use do x in return for y years more toll and you won't have a pay a thing! isn't it grand?"

Never mind that the cost of x is like 10% of the additional toll revenue they'll receive over y years.

Previously would have read "M5 Motorway" with the Metroad 5 icon next to it; presumably it's to stop it reading "M5 M5 Motorway" but you would have thought they might have coverplated the lot...

I noticed some of the VMSs looked different and as though they didn't have the corner flashers, can you confirm that? If that's the case, then RMS/TfNSW may have started to roll out the new colour VMSs.

Yeah, there were a few of those new VMSes without the corner flashers which had a relatively high resolution. Last time I was going up to Newcastle there was one in operation and two were blank, but now it seems all three are now in operation.

Just a few, geez :p

I hope the signs approaching the Newcastle Link Road will be changed to adequately signpost the Hunter Expressway - I worry that the sign with a heap of tape over it will be the extent of the signing for it :p

I note that B89 is missing from the signs referencing George Booth Drive
