Hi Guys,

I'm working on another site update, and this time I am including M7 / A7 in Brisbane as part of it.

Now the Airport Link Tunnel is meant to open in a few weeks, but I am having troubles figuring out the terminus near the airport. Am hoping the brains trust can assist.

The drive-thru videos on the Airport Link web site show sign designs, which I'd imagine are the final or close to final design for the signage. At the Sandgate Rd (SR20/26) interchange at Clayfield, there's a Motorway Entrance sign there, and nothing previous showing M7, however on the ground, M7 numbers are shown on the signs from Southern Cross Way onwards, heading west, which contradicts the drive-thru videos.

Going east, there's not a lot showing M7 at all in the videos.

From what I can tell, SR20 is being replaced by M7 along Airport Dr & East-West Arterial Rd. I made this assumption from the signs already in place and a previous discussion on AH on this. Evidence attached.

Does anyone have any ideas on where M7 ends?

At this stage I have a few of options:
  • Sandgate Rd (SR20/26) at Clayfield (full access interchange)
  • Southern Cross Way (unnumbered, former M1) (full access interchange)
  • Gateway Mwy (M1) at Brisbane Airport (this however is not a full access interchange)

Knowing QLD, that will probably be a tough one to answer. I would hazard a guess at the Southern Cross Way interchange.

OK, we've seen a lot of awful Queensland signage here. But, seriously, that first photo is the most useless thing I've seen in the world. WHERE DOES THE EXIT GO? To a series of small blobs no driver can possibly read. And maybe you can sleep overnight in the Woolworths.

The icing on the cake is there's then an exit to a brown blob in 150m. On a lane misaligned gantry. Over the wrong lane. Next to a fork sign.

I agree, horrid sign. The whole complex is named No. 1 Airport Drive so really it should be signed as such. Leave the illustrations to the billboards.

You might as well ask what the meaning of life is.

If I had to make a call on it, I'd say Old Gateway Motorway only cos that's where the signage ends.

Those gantry pipes are massive, the biggest I've seen so far and they're holding a skinny sign LOL.

Hi Paul,

In a perfect world it should end at the M1 - why end a M route at an
unnumbered route (ie Southern Cross Way)? However there is only about
500m separating the current M1 with the Southern Cross Way along the
M7 route so it hardly matters and would not affect the Exit numbering
scheme.

Cheers,
Michael

They really should number Southern Cross Way. Or even number Airport
Drive/Moreton Drive.

Sam,

I hope Mukinbudin wont get any tunnels soon. I'd hate to think of the
directional signage!

Cheers,
Michael

I thought the Airport Link Tunnel wasn't opening for another few months due to delays?

Apparently opening on my birthday 20 August.

The site for the tunnel didn't mention a date last night :)
