A few years ago a new bridge was built connecting Echuca and Moama over the Murray River, which re-routed B75 (Northern Hwy / Cobb Hwy) out of the Echuca town centre. I just noticed that Transport Victoria's
map of declared roads has re-allocated the old B75 route through the town centre as C385, which seems to be a new route number that isn’t listed on Wikipedia, but it looks like an unsigned one. What’s weird is that the map and the signs on the ground don’t seem to match.
This is what the map shows. C349 has been shortened on the western side by the new path of B75, leaving it as a really short route - while C385 takes the old B75 through Echuca:
Yet if you look at Street View at the intersection of High St and Heygarth St, there are fresh new signs (like
this one and
this one) that say the north-south section of C385 is actually part of C349! That’d leave C385 as the really short route instead - only 750m long. Interesting little inconsistency.
