On the way back to Brisbane from Goomeri, decided to take the “short cut” from Goomeri to Kilcoy using the Kilcoy-Murgon Road. While shorter by about 30km than sticking with the Burnett & D’Aguilar Hwys, it takes much longer with a fair bit of dirt road in place. The new sign indicating 88km of gravel is quite wrong, the road was bitumen for the next 7km and bitumen again all the way from Jimna to Kilcoy, thus about 65km gravel. Once its all bitumen it will be a nice alternative, good scenic drive too, passes through some wonderful rainforest, getting up to elevations of about 700m. The section between Jimna and Kilcoy has a windy stretch as it goes down the escarpment (similar to the D’Aguilar Hwy between Moore and Blackbutt).
Cheers,
Michael
Looks like a really nice drive. The signage is better than some Queensland highways!
