Hi all,

Here are some pics from my recent trip from Goondiwindi back to Brisbane.

The journey followed the Bruxner Hwy from Goondiwindi to Texas. From Texas, SR89 to Stanthorpe and then New England Hwy back direct to Brisbane.

A few points to note:

·         NH39 coverplates still showing on all signs around Boggabilla.

·         I didn’t realize Thunderbolts Way started in Boggabilla. According to the signs, it duplexes with the Bruxner Hwy to Yetman.

·         Bruxner Hwy now all sealed.

·         Some old black signs just south of Boggabilla and some interesting sign designs, unusual for NSW.

·         Focal points westbound on Bruxner seem conflicted – sometimes Boggabilla, sometimes Goondiwindi. Km plates referred to “B” for Boggabilla.

·         Km plates eastbound also changed between “B” for Bonshaw or “Y” for Yetman

·         P1300251 – outside of the ACT, it is not often you see a directional sign in one state (NSW), showing the only destinations on the sign interstate (QLD).

Cheers,

Michael

Enjoyed the pix Michael.

It's been a number of years since I've been along the Bruxner Hwy.

Very much a forgotten bit of road really, and the signage is terrible quality. Bit of shame given that the route is named after an important bloke in our state's road development history.

One of my favourite roads! Nothing has changed in the past 5 years or so lol

The last section of seal was done by Gwydir Shire about 7 years ago with no fanfare at all.

The Thunderbolts Way thing is weird - it's not an official road name (compared to the section south of Uralla to Gloucester which is actually Thunderbolts Way) but was done by Inverell Shire about 5 years as a way of encouraging tourists to come past. The extension goes from Uralla to Boggabilla via Bundarra, Inverell, Wallangra, Yetman and the Bruxner.

P.S. It's no longer the Bruxner Hwy, it's now "Bruxner Way" as it was decommissioned a couple of years ago west of Tenterfield. :)

Not there's many signs indicating it as Bruxner Way :)

Yeah most have no name whatsoever. There's a few fingerboards in Gwydir Shire that show 'Bruxner Way'.

Not sure if Tenterfield Shire have done anything as last time I spoke to them (a few years ago now) they were still hopeful of not having the highway decommissioned and weren't embracing the new name.

I was a little surprised to see that the RMS signs in Boggabilla hadn't been changed to Bruxner Way. Then I remembered all the screw ups in RMS Western Region and was no longer surprised :p

It's a shame Bruxner Hwy was never finished in the 60s, it's definitely a better east-west route than Gwydir Highway in my opinion. A lot flatter and straighter and not much in the way of populated areas to deal with

Thanks for posting Michael.  I’ve never travelled the Bruxner west of Bonshaw.

Good quality pics, most of the signs however are the opposite.  What a load of garbage!

These signs would the responsibility of the councils in this area – hence the quality and consistency!

Re  Bruxner Way signage – as Sam indicated, is non-existent, from memory there’s only a couple of signs that have it between Bonshaw and Tenterfield (I think within Inverell Shire).
