Hi all,
I have been away recently in North QLD and have another swag of facepalms to post once I have some time however here is one serious clanger on the Dingo Beach Rd.
Just for those who may not know, Dingo Beach Road was once an unsealed road linking essentially the Bruce Hwy just north of Proserpine up to the small resort towns of Dingo Beach and Hideaway Bay – they are about 40km south-east of Bowen. The Dingo Beach Rd heads north and before reaching Dingo Beach, a T junction is reached where you can access Hideaway Bay. Normally this sort of junction would warrant standard AD signs and the like, however the attached pic is ALL we get (there is NO other signs in any direction informing motorists of the upcoming junction).
So what is this sign, an AD? An ID? Or a RD?. Well, sadly it’s a bit of everything.
The 1km refers to the junction being 1km away, not the distance to Hideaway Bay (which is still about 8km away).
The sign should not be on a brown plate as it’s an actual township, not some tourist/special destination.
Hydeaway Bay is spelt “Hideaway Bay” (ie the town is somewhat hidden) unless Dr Jekyll himself installed this one.
Cheers,
Michael
