Hi Guys,

I am up in Brisbane for a couple of days, and managed to get a couple of hours of roadgeeking in today, on way to and from work.

Found crap loads of new signage both on TMR and council controlled roads. Some of it looks excellent and wouldn't look out of place in NSW or WA.

Also included is some new M15 signs on Ipswich Mwy (M2).

Some fantastic signs there Paul. I just don’t get that one approaching the Warrego Highway exit. There was one similar to that on the Centenary Highway and they are just plain horrid.

I noticed the Warrego Highway has some fairly decent signage along its Ipswich ‘bypass’ section. They seem to be keeping that up thankfully Open-mouthed smile

Maybe people from TMR or BCC have been browsing the list?? Either way this is a much-needed improvement, shame the Gateway Motorway never received some of this treatment.

Some nice pics Paul. The British style overhead sign is hirrid though, absolutely horrid. Ive never liked them and I think they are much harder to read than the typical qld gantry signs with upward pointing arrows. They also provide less info about the turn path and lane allocations. The reason main roads decided to decommission alt-nr15, ie it would clutter the signs there, seems to be nonsense too. You could easily add a route marker without taking away from the other info.

I also just noticed that the 'exit 1km' sign diesnt include the exit number - why, i dont know. Thats not right is it?

I think if the Warrego Highway directional had been on multiple lines rather than one, it would be a massive improvement. I don't think that's the most interesting part of the picture though - what really blew me out was the number of 'My Family' stickers on the back of the black Nissan Elgrand below...jesus, look at them all! It looks like they're running a preschool out of the back of the van :p

Great signage overall though, the Exit 33 gantry reminded me a bit of some of the gantries I've seen in Melbourne, sans fat white borders.

Don't get me started on those My Family stickers - to me it looks like a Things Bogans Like-esque two-fingered salute to the hipster DINK crowd, a reminder to everyone of just how much Baby Bonus they've claimed in recent years.

(Disclaimer: I have none of the stickers but I do have a 2-year-old daughter - and the Bonus did come in handy.)

Cheers,
Alex.

We can only hope LOL.

I think a lot of the new signs, whilst still not quite right are vastly superior to many that they've replaced. Not counting the crap that usually gets churned out by BCC.

I have tried using Trasicad for sign design myself and it's very easy to bugger up a design in it. So it comes as no surprise that some designs look woeful. In saying that though, once it's been learnt it has some handy features

I also tried Trasicad recently, but I also got the RTA version and noticed no differences to the QLD one. Yet they somehow manage to produce excellent designs somehow.

The TrasiCAD edition that is/was available online is not the same as the RTA use. The RTA version that I have used has a lot more strict parameters set up to get a consistent design style - AIUI the RTA worked long and hard with QDMR to get the program developed the way they like it. The results certainly show, don't they.
