Gazetting of new road/street names in NSW

Am interested in the process of gazetting the names of new roads/streets. I would like to discover when a particular street came into existence (circa 1970s) and figure that it must have appeared in a Gazette at the time?

Process varies between jurisdictions.  In NSW local street names can be formally gazetted, but are not always.  If they're new names from the 1970s, a lot of these will appear in the NSW Government Gazette (but not guaranteed).

Thanks. Without an actual year, the thought of trawling those Gazettes is a bit daunting.

It occurred to me to check annual street directories of the era in order to hone in on the year.

If you know the council area and the name, you can narrow down the search - but it still requires some trawling.  Below is a random example searching "Parramatta" and "road naming".  Unfortunately many road names are not formally gazetted - either pre-dating local government legislation or being applied at the time of subdivision without formal gazettal.

Thanks again.  The Council really put some effort into coming up that that lane name :-)

How did you access the Gazettes? Through Trove or some other way?
