There are an estimated 59 Southwest wolves left in the wild -- making them the most endangered wolves in America. Yet there are anti-wolf politicians, lawless wolf killers and well-funded wolf-opponents who want them eliminated from the wild. My name is Eva and I'm out here in the Defenders Tucson office -- on the front lines, so to speak -- up against the anti-wolf forces determined to wipe out the wolves we've worked so hard to reintroduce. Most Southwesterners support wolves, but there's a few vocal -- and sometimes violent -- opponents who are determined to exterminate wolves in the wild. It's hard to believe that some are so fanatic about killing these animals that do so much to restore the balance of nature. With your symbolic gift of $59 -- a dollar for each wild wolf left in the Southwest -- we'll send you a soft wolf plush as a reminder of your donation. Thanks to the support of people like you, we're making a difference for our Southwest wolves. We stopped Congressman Steve Pearce's legislation to kill off the vital Southwest wolf recovery program. We're working with ranchers and private landowners to help them live side-by-side with wolves -- and reduce conflicts with these amazing animals. We've posted rewards to help capture lawless wolf-killers. Now we face a new challenge as federal officials review the historic Southwest wolf recovery program. This is our first chance in nearly a decade to ensure that the program will help Southwest wolves thrive in the wild -- and make sure anti-wolf opponents don't derail efforts to save these rare animals. I'm writing in the hope you can make a special tax-deductible contribution to aid our efforts here in the Southwest. You can help us expand our successful efforts to keep wolves and livestock apart -- preventing the needless killing of wolves. Your donation will also help us educate local citizens about the important role of wolves on a healthy ecosystem and generate grassroots support for this key restoration program. To call attention to our presence here locally, I'm proud to wear our Defenders gear -- caps, t-shirts, wind breakers -- at public gatherings and media events. And as a special thank you for your symbolic gift of $59 , we'll send you a cuddly wolf plush as a reminder of the important contribution you're making. If that's too much, I hope you send whatever you can today. Every little bit helps pay for the gas to get us to a distant wolf recovery meeting and be a voice for our wolves, print hand-outs for public speaking events or pay for herders to protect livestock in wolf country. Thanks for your encouraging support and your time. And if you're ever in Tucson, I hope you'll come by to say hello so I can give you the latest update on our progress.
P.S. You can make a secure contribution online or call our 24/7 toll free number 1-800-385-9712 to make your tax deductible donation to save the lives of our 59 wolves. I really appreciate whatever gift you can make today. |
