Trans Justice Project is seeking a volunteer Phone Banking Team Lead.
We are a national charity that works to build a world where trans people are safe, celebrated and free. Our primary activities are movement-building, training new leaders, and supporting community members to campaign together for a better future.
Right now we’re looking for a trans person or ally who would be excited to commit some of their time and expertise to supporting groups who are organising actions or events by calling on the phone and making sure they have what they need, among other phone-based duties.
Availability: 3-4 hours per week.
Location: Working from home (we use Discord, Zoom, and the Google Business Suite.)
Activities:
- Building a team of volunteer callers for a regular “calling night”.
- Calling existing supporters to invite them to major events, webinars, and trainings.
- Supporting network leaders with resources and help in organising actions.
- Calling to thank our existing donors for their support.
- Securely managing data for the above (such as the spreadsheet generated by our volunteer recruitment form, donation data from our financial platforms, lists of organizers, etc.)
Our ideal candidate:
- Is at their best on a phone call and willing to make multiple calls in an evening/day.
- Is a confident and eloquent speaker with strong conversational skills who can code-switch to shape their message tone appropriately depending on the target audience.
- Will take ownership to track and follow-up with deferrals, maybes, and missed calls.
- Preferably has some experience with: call-based customer service or sales; collective action such as rallies, strikes, protests, letter writing, etc.
- May also have experience with managing and scheduling a small team, online or off, particularly volunteers. (Or similar experience herding cats.)
- Can commit to either four hours a week or an equivalent monthly time - we’re flexible.
Benefits:
- Work with a great team which has hundreds of volunteers nationally!
- Support and training from experienced organisers.
- Access to great tools, resources, and software.
- Meet other volunteers who care about this cause, in person and online.
- Help to build a world where trans people are safe, celebrated and free.
- TJP staff are all willing to write recommendations or be a character or job reference as needed.
(If you aren’t a phone person but are excited to help out the Trans Justice Project in other ways, you can: join us in a digital action; attend a group in one of the capital cities; sign up to volunteer; follow us on socials or drop us a donation. Thanks!)
