Job Description

We’re looking for a Community Health Promotion Officer to support cancer prevention and screening initiatives for LGBTQ+ communities through peer-based outreach, education and engagement.

  • This role supports the delivery of cancer prevention and screening work across NSW and nationally.
  • You’ll help bring campaigns, events and community activities to life, working directly with communities and peer networks.
  • The role is ideal for someone with a strong interest in health promotion, community engagement and equity focused practice.
  • Full-time [70] hours per fortnight) based in our Gadigal (Surry Hills) office.

You’ll be part of ACON’s Population Health Programs Unit, which brings together:

  • LGBTQ+ Women’s Health
  • Digital Engagement and Campaigns
  • Cancer Programs

ACON’s Cancer Programs lead innovative, community driven approaches to cancer prevention and screening for LGBTQ+ people. This includes health promotion campaigns, outreach at community events, inclusive screening activations and the development of culturally appropriate resources.

Ok, so what’s the role?

The Community Health Promotion Officer, Cancer Programs supports on the ground health promotion and engagement.

You will:

  • Deliver peer-based health promotion and community engagement activities.
  • Support the rollout of inclusive cancer screening campaigns.
  • Coordinate outreach activities, workshops and community events.
  • Assist in developing health promotion resources for priority populations.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community groups, services and stakeholders.
  • Collect community feedback and support basic monitoring and reporting.
  • Use digital tools to support outreach, data entry and resource development.
  • Support and coordinate project volunteers and community members.
  • Contribute to team planning, meetings and quality improvement activities.

Who are we looking for?

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has qualifications in public health, health promotion or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Has experience delivering community engagement or health promotion activities.
  • Communicates clearly and confidently with diverse communities.
  • Is organised, reliable and able to manage day to day tasks independently.
  • Brings a strong commitment to equity, inclusion and cultural safety.
  • Enjoys working in community based, peer led environments.

What else can we tell you?

  • Salary: $72,547 to $87,521 Gross Annual Salary (PLUS Superannuation and Leave Loading)
  • Location: ACON’s Gadigal (Surry Hills) office, with some flexible working options a possibility (away from the office).
  • Hours: Full-Time (70 hours per fortnight) on a 1-year fixed term contract with the possibility of extension.
  • Salary Packaging up to $35,000 gross up value (i.e., currently up to $15,900 Expenses + $2,650 Meals, tax free).
  • Generous pro-rata leave entitlements – including up to an extra week of paid leave for full time employees to be taken during our Christmas and New Year’s shutdown period.
