SA Premier mocks women's rights

 Kirralie Smith  October 22, 2025

SA Premier Peter Malinauskas has mocked women’s rights as a political issue that no one cares about.

He was asked about males who identify as female being housed in women’s prisons, after allegations of sexual assault and bullying were made by female inmates.

Here is his response:

It highlights where we are at. We are six months out from the election, I’m here today focussing on one of the major economic pillars that will underpin prosperity for future generations and Vincent Tarzia is obsessing about transgender prisoner arrangements. That I think tells you everything you need to know about the relevant focus of the two potential parties of government.

It certainly does tell us everything we need to know about you, Peter.

You are unable and unwilling to advocate for important social and civil issues and seemingly can’t address more than one issue at a time.

How on earth can you be premier if only one issue is important to you and you reject the rights of more than half your electorate?

It is beyond belief that any elected member thinks women’s sex based rights are a fringe issue.

Whether or not it is women’s prisons, sports, changerooms or sex based services, this is something all politicians should be concerned about.

Of course economic issues are important, and they can be championed at the same time as women’s sex-based rights and reality.

If you are in a position of power and making laws you should be able to do more than one important thing at once, Peter.

It is embarrassing and shameful that you would try and criticise your opposition for caring for vulnerable women and endeavouring to increase protections based on common sense and decency.
