The Minister for Equality, the Hon. Harriet Shing, today officially launched the Victorian Government’s new trans and gender diverse awareness campaign, ‘The Unsaid Says A Lot’. The campaign was co-designed by members of Victoria’s trans and gender diverse communities to educate and inform all Victorians about trans and gender diverse inclusion and allyship. More than 3 in 4 trans and gender diverse people were treated unfairly because of their gender identity, research from 2020 shows.LGBTIQA+ communities continue to experience high levels of discrimination, stigma and unequal treatment despite increasing acceptance of LGBTIQA+ people in the media and popular culture. This increases the likelihood of people in these communities experiencing health issues, including emotional distress, depression and anxiety. 'The Unsaid Says A Lot’ is supported by leaders from trans and gender communities, as well as representatives from peak organisations including Transcend, Transgender Victoria, Zoe Belle Gender Collective and Inclusive Rainbow Voices. The campaign brings public attention to the discrimination that trans and gender diverse communities face. This campaign is a priority action under Pride in our future: Victoria’s LGBTIQA+ strategy 2022-2032 The aim is that these efforts will lead to greater acceptance and reduced discrimination towards Victoria’s trans and gender diverse communities. We would greatly appreciate your support in amplifying the campaign through your channels so we can reach as many people as possible.
