Kirralie Smith takes fight for truth to the High Court

Family First proudly stands shoulder to shoulder with women’s advocate Kirralie Smith as she takes the extraordinary step of seeking special leave to appeal to the High Court of Australia against the Apprehended Violence Orders (AVOs) imposed on her.

Kirralie’s “act of violence” was simply reposting a public photo asking, “Why are men in women’s sport?” and accurately referring to two male soccer players as men.

For this, she now has a two-year AVO against her and has been found guilty of “vilification” in separate proceedings, facing fines that could run into hundreds of thousands of dollars.

In an email to supporters today, Kirralie said:

“I never thought I would see the day when I would be punished in the courts for telling the truth… It’s now ‘violence’ to ask why men are in women’s sport. Calling a man a man is now ‘vilification.’”

She went on to warn:

“Either we let decisions like this stand – setting unreasonable and ludicrous precedents that will silence the truth for generations – or we take a stand now, and do everything we can to overturn this bad law.”

Family First has consistently opposed radical gender self-identification policies and the erasure of women’s rights.

What is happening to Kirralie is a gross injustice. Flawed laws are being used to punish a woman for speaking biological reality.

Yet neither Labor nor Liberal will commit to reforming these flawed anti-discrimination and vilification laws that allow activists to weaponise the courts against truth-tellers.

This cowardice must end. Politicians should do their job, not stand by while Australians are dragged through the courts for exercising freedom of speech.

Kirralie has launched a High Court Legal Defence Fund, needing $263,000 by the end of October to prepare her case.

Family First urges every supporter who believes in free speech, biological reality, and women’s rights to donate generously. This is her last shot – and ours – to draw the line.

Please donate to Kirralie’s Legal Defence Fund.
