Gender critical psychiatrist penalised
Sacked senior psychiatrist Dr Jillian Spencer took to X over the weekend to let everyone know her colleague Dr Andrew Amos has been penalised by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) for criticising gender ideology in Australia.
Both doctors have long careers in medicine and have spoken out about the harms of “affirmation” treatments that include harmful drugs.
Australian doctors are not permitted to criticise gender ideology, even though most Western nations have banned or at least paused giving chemical castration drugs to children under the guise of affirmation treatments.
Dr Spencer was sacked from the Brisbane Children’s Hospital and is engaged in legal action to clear her name. Dr Amos has been silenced because of his outspoken but extremely reasonable views.
Gender activists, in partnership with @Ahpra, have silenced the brilliant and brave psychiatrist Dr Andrew Amos. He can no longer post on social media about gender and he can no longer have direct clinical contact with patients. In Australia, doctors can’t oppose the gender transitioning of children or the harms of gender ideology. They have wrecked a man’s career. They have taken my brother-in-arms. I will never forgive them, nor the @RANZCP that hung us out to dry.
In the UK, the Cass report halted the industry after it revealed the potential harm the treatments can cause. Nordic countries, New Zealand, and many states in the USA have also ceased the harmful pathways. Australian health practitioners, lobbyists and even parents are continually gaslit and threatened with legal action for opposing the gender “transition” industry.
This latest move is extremely alarming. Health practitioners must be allowed to vigorously and thoroughly challenge medical ideas. If there is nothing to hide, then debate and ideas would be welcomed. The fact is, these drugs and pathways are based on the lie that a person can change their sex. No human has ever changed sex.
Ahpra has gone too far and must be held to account. Australian youth deserve protection and safeguards, not censorship or harmful interventions that fail to address the underlying issues.
