Moira Deeming and the Dead-End Liberals
Another shocking Liberal Party death wish:
Can the Liberal Party in Australia get any worse? Certainly, in Victoria that is a fully legitimate question. They have been in the political wilderness there for 12 years now, and there seems to be no end in sight. Labor has been in power in Victoria since late 2014. But the way the useless Libs are going, Labor will be in power for many years to come.
The main reason for this Labor hegemony is the fact that the Victorian Liberals are about as useless as they come. They are so weak, so woke, and so absolutely focused on their own internal battles and divisions that they offer NOTHING with which to challenge Labor. They might as well not even exist.
For those of us who live in Victoria it has been utterly hellish indeed. Simply consider the Covid tyranny under Dictator Dan Andrews. That was one of the worst lockdown hells in the world, lasting for a full two years. Us mere peons were allowed outside for just one hour a day, and could only travel 5 kilometres from home!
This devilish crap was the literal death of so many. My own wife was dying of cancer, but because I did not submit to the mandatory vax madness, I could not even be with her in hospital. I finally had to get a few jabs (Novavax seemed to be the least bad option of the lot) so that I could be with her.
But the reason for this article is the shocking news that one of the last superstar Victorian Liberals has just been shown the door. Moira Deeming just lost her preselection battle and now faces an uncertain future. One news report explains it this way:
The Victorian Liberal party has dumped controversial upper house MP Moira Deeming from its ticket for the next state election, replacing her with business leader Dinesh Gourisetty. Ms Deeming has been a polarising figure within the party after attending at an anti-trans-rights rally that was gatecrashed by neo-Nazis in 2023.
She condemned the actions of the neo-Nazis but defended her participation in the rally, titled Let Women Speak. She was suspended from the parliamentary Liberal Party before being expelled after threatening defamation action against then leader, John Pesutto.
She successfully sued Mr Pesutto, with a court finding he had defamed her by implying she associated or sympathised with Nazis. However, she returned to the Liberal party room after a leadership spill cost Mr Pesutto the top job in late 2024. Trung Luu will remain on the ballot after holding onto the second position, despite an attempt to move into first place. The outcome marks a shift in the internal balance of the party, with Gourisetty securing strong backing across local branches and among delegates.
Supporters say he won 39 votes, ahead of Deeming on 26, while Luu received three. Gourisetty, who has ties within Melbourne’s Indian community, now moves into a winnable position in a region where the Liberals are expected to secure two seats. The result still requires formal endorsement from the party’s state executive. This is now my 21st article on the champion Moira Deeming. I have known her for many years now, and recall offering to pray for her at a public function some time ago. She has been one of our real heroes here in Victoria. To learn that she has now been assigned to the political wilderness is certainly tough news to hear.
My first piece on Moira was penned a decade ago. In it I said this:
It was most interesting to see two articles side by side in today’s Herald Sun website. The one flows nicely from the other, and both deserve a mention. The first has to do with a Victorian teacher who is disgusted with the radical sexualised content she is being forced to teach her students. She wants nothing to do with it, and she has bravely gone public and told her story. Here is how the article begins:
“A Melbourne high school teacher says she would refuse to teach ‘lewd’ material in the Victorian government’s mandatory respectful relationships program to be introduced in all state schools next year. Moira Deeming, a teacher and mother-of-three, said she was shocked by the content and would rather be fired from her job than teach such ‘sleazy, unnecessary drivel’ to her students.
“Ms Deeming, 33, said educating children as young as 12 about porn and getting them to have classroom discussions about masturbation and sex was not appropriate and would not help to stop gender-based violence and discrimination as the program intended. Under the program, children as young as prep are also being introduced to same-sex relationships through children’s books, including Tango Makes Three, a tale about two male penguins who adopt a baby penguin.
“The book has been banned in Singapore and after parent outrage was scrapped from some school libraries in the UK and the US. It also featured in the most complained about books in America over five consecutive years for “promoting a homosexual agenda”. ‘I feel that this program is bullying male students and stigmatising and stereotyping them — the absolute opposite to what it is supposed to do,” she told the Sunday Herald Sun. ‘It really does build up stereotypes. And she has been going strong ever since. When the fool Libs dumped another pro-life Christian conservative from the party, Bernie Finn, she ended up winning his spot. So she has been a member of the Victorian Legislative Council for the Western Metropolitan Region since November 2022.
But now it seems she needs to find a new day job. Tony Abbott, Peta Credlin and even Vic. Opposition leader Jess Wilson had supported Moira in this particular contest, but we had a moderate Indian taking out the position. Good grief. Can things get any worse for the clowns who make up the Victorian Liberals?
As Liberal Party MP Craig Kelly said:
Moira Deeming just got executed by the Victorian Liberal left. She’s done. No longer even on their ticket. Tony Abbott tried to warn them, that it was a “death wish” – so now the lefty Liberals will reap what they‘ve sown. They’ve pushed Moria Deeming to One Nation and thousands more long-standing Liberals will now move to One Nation. If she decides to run in the Victorian Upper House as One Nation, she‘ll bolt in – and outpoll the Liberals by a country mile.
Or as social commentator Prue MacSween tweeted: “They don’t want to win. What a bunch of fools.” Senator Babet remarked: “This is the dumbest thing I’ve seen the Liberal party do this week.” And Alexandra Marshall was even a bit more straightforward in her assessment of this insane decision: “The Victorian Liberals just said ‘f – you’ to conservatives.”
So the remaining key question is this: will she keep up the good fight via another party, or maybe as an independent? Some have asked why she seemed to be so loyal to the Libs. As I replied to one person who asked me about this: “Yes, she has been very attached to the Liberals, although it is obvious that the Liberals have not been very attached to her!”
There is no question that One Nation is now on a real roll, and someone like Moira would be a great addition to the ever-growing team, with the likes of Barnaby Joyce, Cory Bernardi and others. Just as l placed my hand over Moira at the public event (a prolife meeting) some years ago and prayed for her and her political ministry, we all need to do the same right now.
We must pray for her, her family, and her future direction. As I have said countless times over the years, she is a champion. And the Australian political scene is in desperate need of some real champs right now – especially the beleaguered and aimless Liberal Party. Please pray!
