The Allan government in Victoria must be held to account for the horrifying rape of a female inmate by a male who identifies as female.
Calls for a full scale inquiry must be heeded considering prison bosses warned this is exactly what might happen if they were to accept the lie a male can change sex.
The Herald Sun revealed on Tuesday prison bosses were warned against allowing killer Clinton Rintoull – who transitioned to Katelyne while serving a 20 year sentence for murder – to be transferred to a low-security female prison.
Within three months of the April 2022 transfer Rintoull sexually assaulted a young female prisoner which led to a secret payout by the Allan government.
Prison insiders said authorities ignored warnings that Rintoull would pose an unacceptable risk to female prisoners if allowed to move prisons.
The state government unashamedly has a policy based on lies that allows males access to female prisons, sport, spaces and services.
They are entirely culpable for the harm and injury done to females by the blatant lie men can be women. They can not!
Corrections Victoria last month tightened policies around prison transfers for transgender inmates.
However this issues has caused a split among Ms Allan’s caucus with some senior Labor figures pushing for a tougher crackdown including a blanket ban on any trans women killers or sex offenders being housed in female prisons.
The Premier has repeatedly refused to be drawn on the case but on Tuesday left the door open to such a ban.
“If there is further work to do the minister would be open to considering that,” she said.
Liberal MP Moira Deeming, who has long lobbied against biological males inside women’s prisons, said the case highlighted the urgency of legislative change to protect women.
“At some point in time its inevitable that people acknowledge the fact that biological sex is immutable, it is unchangeable, and it is extraordinarily important to the rights and dignity of everyone in our society,” she said.
“We cannot keep children and women safe without sex segregation.
“Before this ideology took hold women had the right to raise the alarm the minute a man stepped foot into our change rooms, now we have to wait until we are actually assaulted before we complain.
“They want us to wait until it’s too late.”
