Job Description
We’re looking for a values driven Cancer Programs Lead to provide leadership across ACON’s Cancer Programs, including guiding the delivery of the Check OUT clinic and leading community engagement activities.
This is a role for someone who enjoys working at both a strategic level and a hands on level, and who is just as comfortable contributing to planning and partnerships as they are pitching in at events and engaging directly with community.
Full-time (70 hours per fortnight) based in our Gadigal (Surry Hills) office.
What's the Cancer Program you ask?
The Cancer Programs Lead provides leadership across cancer prevention, screening, and related community programs. The role works closely with community members, clinical partners, government, and internal teams to deliver inclusive, evidence based, and community led initiatives that reduce cancer inequities for LGBTQ+ communities.
A key part of the role is guiding the Check OUT clinic, ACON’s free, LGBTQ+ inclusive and trauma informed screening clinic, and leading the delivery of community engagement activities across NSW and nationally.
You’ll join ACON’s Population Health Programs Unit, which brings together:
- LGBTQ+ Women’s Health
- Digital Engagement and Campaigns
- Cancer Programs: ACON’s Cancer Programs work to reduce cancer disparities for LGBTQ+ communities through prevention, screening, social marketing, community engagement, and service innovation.

As the Cancer Programs Lead, you will:
- Provide leadership across cancer prevention and screening initiatives
- Guide the delivery and development of the Check OUT clinic in partnership with clinical providers
- Lead the planning and delivery of community engagement activities, including events, outreach, and pop up activities
- Balance strategic planning with hands on delivery, including attending events and engaging directly with community
- Build and maintain strong relationships with community, clinical, and government partners
- Lead and support staff and project volunteers
- Ensure programs are evidence informed, inclusive, and trauma informed
- Contribute to evaluation, reporting, and continuous improvement
- Work collaboratively across ACON teams to deliver shared outcomes
