Folks,

I have been working on getting my AUSkey working on my Ubuntu 16.04. I have the latest java (8.0.121), and i have installed the AUSkey firefox extension on version 51.0.1 and i have created the AUSkey directory (with an empty keystore.xml file in that directory). However, when attempting to log in a pop-up window with the following shows up:
An error has occurred with a result code of 4305.
Extension failed to load supporting software [Error: couldn't open library /home/timw/AUSkey/libabrakmbe.so: /home/timw/AUSkey/libabrakmbe.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory]

I have done a locate for the shared library, however, nothing there.  Any thoughts?

thanks

Tim

Hi Tim,

Thanks for your message. The library you're referring to is not available for Linux (yet). Your stated error indicates to me that you've installed the Firefox extension that is available for Windows. This is not going to work like this.

At the moment we're in between two versions. The ATO team have rolled out Firefox and Chrome plug-ins for Mac / Windows in anticipation of the release of Firefox v52 which will discontinue the use of NPAPI, something which Chrome did a year and a half ago.

You can see my post on this called "Ongoing Support for Linux". You should read this, since it explains what happens when the new version of Firefox is released at the end of March.

Now, if the ATO website hasn't changed, and I don't know if it has, you should be able to follow the existing instructions to make this work: http://auskey.itmaze.com.au/how-to

One other comment, the keystore.xml file is not a file that you create yourself. This comes from the Australian Business Register. You'll find a link on the same HowTo document I showed above.

Let us know how you go.

If it helps, I've been using this stuff on Linux for many years and ATO support for Linux is continuing and on the roadmap.

Thanks Onno! I received an email from the ATO about the AUSkey install process today (after i posted here ;-\ ) and below is what they gave me. I guess i did get my wires crossed with the extension...i have since removed it.

Commands and steps to install (done via terminal)

  1. sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/java
  2. sudo apt-get update
  3. sudo apt-get install oracle-java8-installer
  4. java –version
  5. sudo apt-get install oracle-java8-set-default
  6. Go www.java.com/verify to load the plugins
  7. Install the AUSkey/Use AUSkey
It all works really well, until step 7, that's where it mentioned something about the extension.

I will keep playing.

thanks.
