2013 Bond University Australian Junior Chess Championships

Block out your calendar, lock in your Queensland holiday now, the 2013 Bond University Australian Junior Chess Championships will be from the 19th to 27th January 2013 at Bond University, Queensland.

Junior Elite Training Squad (JETS) selections

Every year the AusJCL organises a holiday chess camp for the elite junior chess players in Australia. Emphasis is given for the younger juniors in the squad. This year it is being held in Melbourne form the 2nd-7th July 2012 at the premises of the Box Hill Chess Club.

For junior chess players, getting into this squad is a real achievement. The names of the successful applicants for the AusJCL 2012 Johns-Putra JETS are:

U/16 Australian vs Indonesia Internet Match

Indonesia 6.5 - Australia 3.5

Australia was defeated by Indonesia 3.5 - 6.5 in an internet match between two teams of U/16 players on April 21.

The match was plagued by technical problems at the Indonesian end, but in the end the lower ranked Indonesian team fully deserved their victory.

The Australia v Indonesia match is hoped to be the first of a number of international matches to prepares Australia's U/16 Squad for the 2012 Youth Olympiad in Turkey later in the year.

2012 Victorian Junior Chess Championship

For all those young Victorian chess players who finished the 2012 Australian Junior Chess Championship wanting more you can try your skill in the 2012 Victorian Junior Chess Championships. There will be two tournaments, one for the U8/U10/U12s and the other for U14/U16/U18s.

U8/U10/U12 tournament is 7 rounds from Saturday 30th June to Sunday 1st July.

U14/U16/U18 tournament is 9 rounds from Monday 9th July to Friday 13th July.

Both tournaments are at the Canterbury Junior Chess Club.
