Hey,

Can anyone tell me what's with that presenter of the 'computer nerds'
series (Thurdays 8pm, ABC) and her ridiculously low cut attire?

Is it ABC policy to give nerdos across the country simultaneous fits or
is she just teasing 'Come and get an eyeful lads...for more of the same,
tune in next week'.

It's a good enough show in itself, I really don't need the extra
incentive ;)

have to put up with her at the beginning and end.

Although I do see you point - maybe she is there to entice the male
viewing audience to watch ( ala Kate Fischer on Whats up doc). However
being a show in the birth of the PC industry i wouldn't have thoguht the
male viewing audience would be lacking. What we reaally need is some
guy in a low cut top..... ;-)

Thought that was a bit out of place, Quantum always seems to have
had a thing for attractive presenters, but that was
one step further again - adding sex-appeal to science?
- her shirt wasn't even low cut,
it was just left blatantly unzipped... not really the sort of thing you
expect on an ABC doco about computers ( I doubt any of the
audience we're complaining though ... )
Rebecca's always been a bit "in your face" though ...

Ever since that Elle McFeast doco on breasts, people at the ABC
seem to have gone a bit silly... what's next? topless newsreaders?

I'm sure her Breasts don't make her do her job any worse, so we shouldn't
discriminate against her unless her breasts are the reason she got her job and
if that would cause her to not do her job good enough. They shouldnt get rid
of her because of how she looks.

Not quite that great a show. Very provincially American.
It leaves out the real contributers to modern computing. Namely the Brits
starting with Alan Turing and including the developer of the Amiga, Sinclair
and the Archimedes. It is true that they are not big sellers in US
and such, but the Amiga, which predates the Mac had GUI and true multitasking
Also the Archimedes which came out in 1986 with RISC chips Million bytes per
second processing video disk and also a genuine Turing machine. That is able
to emulate any computer type.

I daresay most of the population is wowed by technology etc but science

I am not sure what is up with the cleavage on Quantam last week. But I
know I was disgusted and appalled at the zipper level on her blouse. My
husband said that he realy didnt know what I was making such a fuss over,
I guess he was enjoying the show! lol Being a woman in the 90's I also
enjoy watching Quamtam and I think that its only right if they are tacky
enough to show her "breasts" then I want to see Bill Gates's BUTT! I too
believe that the show could stand on its own and she could reloacte to
somewhere where her cleavage could be more appropriate. ABC whats
happening to you..I thought this was an educational show not a free peep
show.
I am also in need of the quamtam address can someone please help me out!

What what she will be wearing next week?
Guess we just have to wait on that one!

That damned woman puts me right off the whole show. I hadn't really noticed
the breasts, because I've usually got my hands on my ears and looking the
other way until she buggers off.

All those "nerd" references are annoying the hell out of me, too. I don't
know what the "common usage" of the word is, but to me it means a geek
without a brain, and, as appealing as it may be to cast Bill Gates in such a
role, it doesn't really fit him - or any of the others so far presented,
except maybe the bimbo doing the intros.

And I'll be very surprised if they interview Linus Torvalds.

OTOH, I was pleasantly surprised by the last episode - I was expecting some
sort of "rah! rah! rah! Microsoft!" garbage, but they do seem to have given
reasonable coverage of the Mac (although some of the stuff about the ][ line
being unviable may have been a bit off the mark, but anyway...)

Taro,
I dont see the problem here, Rebbeca La Torno (someone correct me if I
am wrong) looks great, and I enjoy her links. This is 1996, not 1896,
her attire ridiculous? No,I dont think so. Should all female ABC staff wear
clothing that covers from neck to ankle? No, I dont think so. Do you have
something against breasts?

Why is an Australian presenter even necessary? The program was
made for US TV and is quite good. Why can't the ABC simply show it?

The meanings of 'nerd' and 'geek' have been shifting over the
past few years. I agree that present usage seems to suggest that a
'geek' is cool and a 'nerd' isn't, but five of six years ago the two
words were the other way round.

By the content of most of these posts it seems that many people tuned in
to see Rebecca rather then watch the latest episode in this interesting
doco. If displaying a large portion of her breasts was supposed to be
extra incetive to view Quantam then surely it would have been advertised,
e.g. "Quantum this week featuring Rebbeca's Breasts". If she wishes to
have here zipper at that level surely that is here perogative.

BTW if you realy want to see Bill Gate's BUTT then your probably on your
own.

I think Karina Kelly has left the show and Le Tourneau is the new presenter.
While I won't complain about a pretty face on TV, I think she needs to dress
a little more conservatively for a serious (and award-winning) science show.
Maybe because we are coming up to the summer (silly/non-regular) season that
she felt it is ok to wear a "summer" sort of clothing.

Yes, but is Rebecca a science journalist, or an anchorbimbo? That's the

Qantum hasn't exactly been averse to using pretty women as presenters
