Southern Cross Communications (which already owns TEN Capital, TEN
Victoria, Southern Cross Television Tasmania, 3AW and Magic 693 in
Melbourne, and 6PR/96FM in Perth) has bought NWS9 from previous
owners, the Lamb family.

(Southern Cross' rival WIN was also rumoured to be interested in the
station, and no doubt Kerry Packer was also keen to add it to his Nine
stable).

I think Southern Cross generally runs a tight ship with its stations,
particularly with its TEN's, so they're probably just doing more of
the same at NWS9.

I'm not saying what they're doing is right or wrong, just that's how
its probably come about.

Simple, they want to save money. Of course this happens at the
expense of regional content but they obviously don't care about that.
