As I understand it, the government isn't asking him to restore his
land to native vegetation, only that he restrict farming to the
portion of his land that was already cleared.
If he was able to make a living from that before, why can't he now?
If he wants more income, why doesn't he invest his energy in improving
the productivity of the land he has already cleared?

hectares to plant lucerne (or whatever) that provides hay for stock
during dry times.

I lived on a farm during my growing years and the family just made
enough money to pay the mortgage. We produced most of our own food and
therefore, hadn't starved.
Droughts make farming very difficult and one can't harvest rain water
when it does rain without the means to excavate a dam - even that is
not easy in flat country (no
hills for the run-off).

I've got sympathy for poor souls who have their houses compulsorily
acquired by Vic Roads to build another fucking freeway which will only

Population densities in practically every other OECD country are
higher than they are in Australia. Local councils should bite the
bullet and allow for more high density living. In Geelong the planning
wankers are just doing the exact opposite, they are building a new
suburb at Mount Duneed where the average lot size will be bigger than
those in the existing suburbs. Yet they say they are going to have a
range of affordable accommodation at the same time.

ON RN this morning I heard Heffernan say Spencer was offered two
million by the the NSW state labour Government and he rejected it.
The land is highly likely to be utterly useless as grazing property
notwithstanding prices for cattle at slaughter are at a fifty year low
anyway.
Sounds to me like Spencer is being a fool to himself and simply a
burden to everyone else.
He might be crazy but that doesn't excuse all the others around him
