I'm considering it a sign of how much this group has corrupted my innocent soul
but it (i.e. there was just one this time) was the first thing that I noticed in
a new Target ad. Spotted during DC tonight, it was the ad with a beach setting
and making a point of them not stocking famous labels.

And Alston, Howard and Harradine think explicit pictures are corrupting - what
little they suspect. Obviously they should have first considered banning car ads
from TV.

You have discovered the Curse of Aus.tv. For the rest of your days, you
(and everyone else who was in here during those fateful days) will never
see a nipple without thinking of aus.tv, however distracting that might be
in the circumstances...

Yeah that's my excuse too. I mean I didn't even notice the Corolla nipple
until this group pointed it out... and that's FAR more obvious than the
Target nipple. A far classier nipple, if there is such a thing.

> Spotted during DC tonight, it was the ad with a beach setting

Well now you've raised it, what do you think of the ad?

It's an interesting departure from the popular but tired ads they've been
running for a long time now. The message about being anti-label is fairly
clear, but the rest is fairly obscure. Why the horse on the beach? What is
happening there?

I also quite like the rather interesting lack of the "Target" name...
nothing more than the logo. Certainly a nice avoidance of labelling
themselves... with no slogan in sight.

I really think two big enthusiastic thumbs up to whoever does target advertising
(looks like a new company) for....trying to "cool target up" or "less dork it"
and for the target execs for seeing that the ads they had were so aimed at a
very select demographic and that they were missing out on a whole lot of
shoppers with deep pockets :)
I say it's funky and a step in the right direction...
....don't get the horse though

"Raised it"? We still talking nipples? <g>

Yeah, it was ok. Target already being my underwear and tracky dack supplier
of choice, it won't influence me to shop there any more frequently. I did
like the horse. I did like the red lines through the name brands popping up.
I didn't pick it for a Target ad. Maybe a better sound track.

And yes, the nipple was a very nice touch. <g>

This is true... whilst I don't like admitting that I watched
an episode of Home and Away, I noticed the nipples on the
new life-saver - and thought, "I'll have to remember to post
to aus.tv about that".

Yes, it was nearly enough to make me start watching H&A again when I saw her

And with that one simple comment the entire male hormone content of the
newsgroup quadrupled. Odonata, I'm sure you've just set dozens of
computer-nerds imaginations racing :)

Speaking as a red-blooded, non computer nerd male - I've Got Wood...

...which allows me to neatly bring my post back on topic. A friend of mine
over in England told me recently about a show there called "I've Got Wood".
The premise is simple; a topless spunkette spends 5 minutes sanding or
planing a piece of timber - bent over towards the camera of course - all the
while coo-ing things like "Ooo yes, this is a long, hard piece of wood" &
"I'll have to make sure I rub it hard". At the end of a show the camera
starts on a close shot of the spunkette's face and boobs and zooms back to
reveal a 16th century mahagony table (or the like) - while she does a
'ta-da!' gesture as if this is what she has knocked together.

Now - who wants to start a lobby group to get a local version made? Or at
least to get it played on UK TV.

Thank you, come again,

Yup I didn't get the horse on the beach thing either. The only thing I
can think of that it might represent is something like "freedom from
convention" _or_ "freedom of expression" somehow.. Although it would make
more sense if they rode the horse _down_ the beach. Perhaps the idea is
that the horse is a quality label, but at the same time unknown (in the
sense of being a label).. a la Target's sales push. I mean the look of
rapture on the models (or was that just us guys at the nipple? :) ) is
something to behold...

If anyone does know what it's all about I'd love to know myself!

In the same vein, can someone *please* tell me.. in the libra(?) mini
tampon ad - the one set in the laundry(that has to be a yank ad) where
the cute girl puts her washing in(the white top) and she has to get
change from the other woman because the change guy doesn't have any...
anyway in the scene where the girl takes out her washing and bends over
to give the other woman her basket of stuff(and whence the tampon packet
falls in there) and walks out, the woman picks up the tampons and looks
at them, then you see a draw back to the washing machine/dryer and there's
something in there.. WHAT is that? It's obvious significaant, but I don't
know what it is!

Obnipple: Now, if that model in THAT ad had a nipple when she puts on her
tight lil white number.... That would *have* to make an aus.tv nipple top
10! :)

I read this a little different. I read the change guy as being a
lazy gross bastard. Did you notice that when she asked for change
he looked her up and down, noted she only had small breasts and said
"sorry, no change"?

You missed the important bit - that she washed the sleeping change
guy's toupee (which subsequently shrunk) and snuck it back on the
guy's head. I guess I don't pay much attention to ads because it
took a couple of passes before I picked that up.

In answer to your query though, I dunno. :)

Its the toupee of the change attendant who wouldn't give her any
change - as shown at the end of the ad when they show the shrunken
toupee on his head.

That's the way I read the ad's intent. She asks for change, he
looks her up and down then shakes his head.

It doesn't actually show her *doing* it, but it gives you a shot
of the top of the guy's head at the end where he's wearing the
shrunken toupee.

Damn, I missed that - I picked the end bit, but hadn't noticed her
actually with it in the machine.

BTW, addendum to my earlier message: One of the reasons I think
he's refused to give her change because of her breast size is the
look of pure disgust she gives him. Just not having change doesn't
warrant that.

I thought she was like that because of the way he looked her up and
down and how obviously sleazy he was (even *I* got that part :) ).

Doesn't do a thing for me. :P

Just a bit of trivia for you.....

Apparently you can tell an old mannequin because after a certain year
in the past they manufactured them with nipples. Before that they had
none.

Don't ask me how valid this is, it's just what a friend told me. :-)
(He's looking to buy one because he's an artist.)

I recall noticing this when it happened - a long time ago now. I remember my
thought at the time was that maybe the advent of braless fashion meant it was
possibly important to see how things would turn out (as it were). But I'm a long
way from my area of expertise here.
