The channel 10 news said that 75,000 dogs participated in this years
RSPCA Million Paws Walk. Assuming none of the dogs were amputees, that
makes only 300,000 paws. When did journalism get so lazy?

You're mistaken. Journalists are never lazy. They just know that if they
started getting their arithmetic right, we might suggest that they also
try to use the correct physical units, meaning that the delightful 5
watt power stations[*] would be a thing of the past.

Then probably many of the dogs _were_ amputees.
