I wonder if this is suppose to shift the focus from how pathetic they

Of course!

Maybe an easy target, but El-Queda would not accomplish any goals.
That is: it will not change any US Foreign Policies or change
the US involvement in Mid-East or change the US association with
Israel.
Why don't you tell that to the kurds and then huff some
mustard gas?
Quite possibly there will be a terror attack some time somewhere here,
but that's an extremely Melbourne-centric prediction using practically
no imagination. One might almost think it was meant to impress the
largest number of people.
Can't. The Kurds are being killed by state backed troops
from the USSA and Turkey. In brand new USSA
supplied F-16 fighter jets as well.

Well let's not destroy what could be a self fulfilling prophecy. If
terrorists realised the damage they could do in northern states where
the money comes from, it'd effect more than Spencer street station and a
few thousand bean counters.

That'd be the mustard gas the Yanks let him develop to use on the
Iranians, yeah?

Not so. He is entirely correct: the "45 minutes" story was an
outrageous Goebbelsian lie told by the British government.

Iraq :
- never was responsible for 9/11
- never had any WMDs capable of "45-minutes" deployment against the
UK.

I hope I've not said "never" too often for you - I wouldn't want you
to choke on your government-supplied bullshit.

Let's do a simple analysis on this:
Nuclear weapon:
- $$$$Very Costly (even a dirty bomb)$$$$
Ease of importing a dirty bomb to:
- Australia - difficult, australia has strong border control.
- USA - much easier
- UK - Still pretty easy, especially seeing as 3% of the population
now are muslim and surveys show 30% of them support killing in the
name of religion.
Effect/goals meet Al Qaeda's objectives
- Blowing up any US city - big tick
- BLowing up any British city - small tick
- BLowing up Melbourne - um, hang on - if you can get a bomb into
Australia, why would you have a go at Melbourne? Melbourne is an
globally obscure and ugly little sprawl of suburbia. Sydney is far
more publicity-friendly on the global stage.
Summary:
Nuclear weapons are hard to some by. Importing a nuclear weapon for
the purpose of mounting a terrorist attack would have the least chance
of success against Australia. Also, it would have the least effect.
Conclusion:
This Professor is a bullshit-artist. Typical uni-wanker. Probably a
feminist. Bet he loves illegal immigrants, too.
How does he calculate those effects I wonder, when there is NO mention of
type, size or deployment method?
MrT.
Fair point, but it's still limited vision to assume the greatest terror
threat even within Victoria is to Melbourne... and by nuclear bomb...
and a clean one... and of that specific size.
What about where the food comes from? What about dropping something
nuclear or biological in the water supply... or the air?

Uh, right. I'd like to see you prove these allegations. Even if
true, no one twisted Saddam's arm to force him to use it on the
kurds. Renob.

Huh? Are you denying the Yanks were accessories after the fact in the
gas attacks on the Kurds?

...no, but the Yanks helped him try to cover it up and supplied him
with plenty of money and military hardware to reward him for gassing
the Kurds.
Maybe the article was in fact trying to direct terrorist traffic, like
when they hoped no one would go round the end of the Maginot Line.

Of course, you can prove all the above right?
Of course not, renob.
Interestingly, Saddam's poison gas was made in a German supplied pesticide
factory.
Lots and lots of nations helped Saddam militarily and otherwise - most
prominently the French and Russians, but to a lesser extent the Germans,
Chinese and North Koreans.
The US was the only real exception - they provided no weapons whatsoever to
Saddam from the day he gained power until he lost power. The US did however
help arm the countries Saddam attacked - Kuwait, Israel and Iran.

Which side were the US supporting in the ten year Iraq/Iran war again?
"[T]he United States actively supported the Iraqi war effort by
supplying the Iraqis with billions of dollars of credits, by providing
U.S. military intelligence and advice to the Iraqis, and by closely
monitoring third country arms sales to Iraq to make sure that Iraq had
the military weaponry required. The United States also provided
strategic operational advice to the Iraqis to better use their assets
in combat... The CIA, including both CIA Director Casey and Deputy
Director Gates, knew of, approved of, and assisted in the sale of non-
U.S. origin military weapons, ammunition and vehicles to Iraq. My
notes, memoranda and other documents in my NSC files show or tend to
show that the CIA knew of, approved of, and assisted in the sale of
non-U.S. origin military weapons, munitions and vehicles to Iraq."
Theo
What a load of crap. The USA/CIA did supply weapons and training to Saddam
when he was on their good list by overthrowing/assassinating the previous
ruler Qasim/Kassem, (who upset the USA with his nationalistic oil policies).
And he stayed on their good books/payroll whilst he was attacking Iran, or
the Kurds. His invasion of Kuwait did finally upset them (he'd agreed to
forego a claim on Kuwait in return for the USA's original support), and from
then on was he no longer considered an ally, and no longer received military
support.
It's not hard to find all that out if you even bothered to look.

He has either picked the numbers out of his arse (very likely) or
plagiarized old Cold War scenarios from the 70's. (Much more likely).
I recall the same shit-scared stories from the Media in the 70's about
how much damage would be caused by a direct strike on Sydney by the
old USSR. No-one was able to satisfactorily answer the question "Why
would they bother?".
