Republican politician Jack Ryan has ended his quest for a US Senate seat,
four days after allegations that he pressured his ex-wife, a Star Trek
actress, to have sex in swingers clubs were made public.
Ryan, 44, said he was reluctantly calling off his bid for an Illinois Senate
seat because he wanted to avoid a "brutal, scorched earth" campaign.
The former Wall Street banker had come under increasing pressure from senior
party officials to bow out of the campaign following the publication of
lurid reports about his sex life earlier this week.
The reports centred on allegations that Ryan pressured his ex-wife, actress
Jeri Ryan, to visit exotic sex clubs in New York, New Orleans and Paris
during supposed "romantic" getaway weekends.
The actress, who starred in Star Trek: Voyager and the drama Boston Public
contended her husband pushed her to have sex in front of strangers, in
divorce filings which were unsealed Monday at the request of two news
organisations.

Several important officials in the grassroots party organisation have since
urged Ryan to quit the race, with one influential county chairman saying
voters would regard his alleged behaviour as "repulsive and alien".
The multi-millionaire candidate was also lampooned by the national media,
with late night television chat show hosts making quips about the "swing
vote" and "perverted Trekkies."
A cartoonist for a Chicago tabloid drew a beaming Ryan reaching out to
voters with the caption "Vote for me. I'm a creep".
Late yesterday, members of the Midwestern state's congressional delegation
met behind closed doors and agreed unanimously that Ryan should drop out.

the key word there is "pressured" - that doesn't make her a swinger, it
makes her a victim.
that tom clancy has a lot to answer for ...
What's that gotta do with Tom Clancy?
*sigh*

Dude, a simple google search would have told you.
Tom Clancy is a novellist. One of his recurring characters (perhaps an
avatar for Clancy's own wishes) is a man called Jack Ryan.
On the subject of the original post, I don't believe that Jeri Ryan
could have been having sex in public without being noticed already. You
could sell tickets to something like that. *No one* noticed that Seven
of Nine was bonking in a sex club? Surely the patrons of such an event
would be fairly disinhibited, and pretty happy to collect money from the
tabloids for telling the tale.
do star trek geeks actually have sex ... in public clubs no less????

she's not the geek - just the actress who lucked out.
and the answer to question is "yes - if you count masturbation as sex in
public".
I'd like to know the story behind her metting up and subsequent
relationship with Brannon Braga (executive producer of Voyager) and
subsequent appearance on Voyager. This makes me sound like someone who
reads womans day but I'm curious to know more about the two people
(Brannon Braga and Rick Berman) who are responsible for the decrepit
state the Star Trek brand has fallen into.
i thought she hooked up with him AFTER she'd joined the cast.
but i agree. Braga and Berman are the reason Trek isn't looking too
good these days. As soon as they left DS9 to others, the show improved
10fold.
