Here name was Tania Blencowe IIRC, she was 11 at the time which would make
her 16 or 17 now, and she was from a primary school in Menai (in Sutherland
Shire, about 30km / 20 miles south of Sydney). Whether she's still in that
neck of the woods, I don't know, but she'd be busy studying for her HSC
now. :-)

She still lives in the area. Her family home was destroyed during the
bushfires and she lost all her souvenirs and memrabilia from her
represenations at the Olympics presentaton

About 12 months after the successful bid, her home was destroyed in the Sydney
bushfires taking with it all the Olympic memorabilia (sp?) she had collected
during the bid process. She was obviously devastated. Since then - with
one major exception - she has been out of the public eye.
Recently she has been on TV commenting on the fall from grace of the IOC and
IIRC she was trying to distance herself from the scandal associated with the
Sydney bid. She is obviously a lot taller and somewhat slimmer than I
remember (not that she was actually overweight then).
She would be 17. Sydney won the games 6 years ago.
