Does anyone remember one of the first ever Aussie soaps - The
Sullivans. I have tried for ages to gather any info on this program
via the web (search engines and newsgroups(UK)).

I live in the UK and one of our satellite channels has been showing
the series for the last year or two and I've become hooked.

I first came across it in the UK about 16 years ago when I was off
school sick and watched it on and off then but only recently have I
wanted to find out what has happened to the original cast members.

I know that the actor who played Harry Sullivan turned up in another
soap about a family who won the state lottery and the actor who played
John appeared in the Flying Doctors.

Any info anyone supplies will be greatly appreciated and will earn my
eternal gratitude.

The Sullivans was in production during the 1970s and featured the
following actors:

Paul Cronin - Dave Sullivan
Lorraine Bayly - Grace Sullivan
Andrew McFarlane - John Sullivan
Steven Tandy - Tom Sullivan
Richard Morgan - Terry Sullivan
Susan Hannaford - Kitty Sullivan

These were all part of the same family, Dave and Grace were hubby and
wife and the rest were their children, in order of age.

Michael Caton - Harry Sullivan (Daves brother)
Vivien Grey - Ida Jessup (their nextdoor neighbour)
Reg Gorman - Jack Fletcher (the local barman)
Norman Yemm - Norm Baker (Daves old army buddy)
?? - Maggie Baker (Norms wife)

From what I remember, the show ended around 1948 when Terry was put in
prison for selling stolen goods. He broke out and returned home, and in
a car chase with the police, Dave was run over and died in the last
episode. Grace died during the war when a building in London was bombed.
Virtually all the male characters were in the army at one time or another.

Of the actors, well Paul Cronin went into virtual retirement after the
series finished, making ads for a local hardware chain and helping buy
an Aussie Rules football club. Lorraine Bayly went back to working on
stage, and hasnt been seen much either. Andrew McFarlane worked on series
such as Patrol Boat and Flying Doctors, and I believe he is also working
in theatre. Susan Hannaford was designing her own clothing range at one
time, and (allegedly) was about to secure a role in an American soap.
Michael Caton was in that terrible series Chances, and I have a feeling
he might also have been in Paradise Beach. Im not sure what has happened
to the rest of the cast.

The program was a breeding ground for acting talent, with people such as
Mel Gibson, Nicole Kidman, Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan appearing in
guest roles (OK, the last two dont have much talent.)

Maggie Baker was played by Vicki Hammond, who I regularly see around
Melbourne. Prior to The Sullivans Paul Cronin starred in Matlock
Police and Solo One, where he played a motor-cycle cop.

Genevieve Picot who I remember was in The Sullivans when WWII ended is

Susan still is designing according to the 40 Years of TV thingy last
Friday.

But everyone's forgotten the woman who was, & possibly still is, the
best looker on Aus TV - Megan Williams. (Where is she now ??)

When she's not putting out bogus publicity blurbs about guest appearances
on Seinfield and Bold & The Beautiful, etc.

Ah yes, the lovely Alice. Well she went on to play one of the lead roles
in Cats, and at one stage was working Melbourne pubs with a rock band.
I seem to recall she was married to someone else in the entertainment
industry, but I cant remember who. Oh well.

It was one of the guys from Cold Chisel (Ian Moss I think).
