Perhaps the majority of the viewers worldwide don't have widescreen
digital broadcasts. We went digital before the UK, which is probably the
biggest country that watches F1 on TV.

"Red Bull tastes like canned carbonated concentrated evil."
You really need to look at who does the outside broadcast, in the first
place, and what the world market dictates it wants, And remember we are
only a very small market,. and our local broadcaster will just download the
program from the satellite up-link.
And most of the F1 stuff comes via a Star Sports uplink including the
English commentary on Thai global, which is from ITN in the UK.
A case in point will be the Australian GP,, it will be standard 4.3, simply
because that is what the rest of the world want. And if the Australian
outside broadcasters want
a marketable product, they must comply with what the market wants, Frankly
this country, is not interested in this sort of television, look at the
times of the broadcast,
The Malaysian race will be very close to our times, but it will be
relegated to10.30 on Sunday night, with no attempt at the Saturday practice
, simply because, the viewing audience is very small, and that will be
downloaded as I have described above.
Where as, it will be broadcast on Star, and Thai Global, in real times,
both practice and race, simply because they have a far bigger viewing
audience , in there part of the world... it will be long over, before
channel 10 even think about there re-broadcast of the race.
With there crappy attempts at a commentary

How do they achieve that - shoot the better ones?

What equipment is needed to receive Thai Global on Gold Coast?
TIA
You don't want Thai global. The race is in fact on an Indonesion channel
called GlobalTV on Palapa C2. 1.8M should do it easily
A1 formula, for a better word, was designed and sponsored by a few Arab's in
Dubai, or thereabouts, the good drivers get promoted to bigger things very
quickly, Nicki Rossburg, being a case in point.
Star Sports Asia, do the coverage, and at one time we enjoyed full coverage
FTA, until the channel went encrypted, to comply with the rest of the Star
bouquet of channels.
And lets face it, the Asian market for this sort of thing is massive.

Asked and answered,,
With regard to the 1.8meter dish, might be OK, but I would go for a solid
as apposed to a mesh dish. just to be sure.
many of the satellite TV retaillers in your part of Queensland, will sell
you a package,
with everything except the hole in the ground and the concrete. let your
fingers do the walking, in the Pink pages.

So too are the World Superbikes.
It'll be interesting to see if the V8s will be in WS when broadcast from
Bahrain or UnZud later this year...

Probably.
