Rainham offers a myriad of contrasts; quintessential English village;
hub of industry; home to medieval marshlands, and abound
with rumours of river-linked smuggling! The village boasts
many original buildings including the Norman Church
of St Helen & St Giles and the Georgian Rainham Hall. This
walk will look at the influence of trade upon the area and
how it informed much of the heritage still visible today.
The walk around the village will take approximately one
hour taken at a leisurely pace. If you decide to walk
to the RSPB Centre please allow at least an hour to
reach the centre and one hour to return.

Havering Museum in High Street, Romford is holding the walk on
Tuesday October 23 starting off at the tourist office in South Street,
Romford at 6.30pm.
On Thursday October 25, the museum’s project manager Ellen Owen will
be sharing stories behind the museum’s current haunted Havering and
beyond exhibition, which features Rainham Hall, Bretons Manor,
Upminster Golf Club and three local pubs which do have a few ‘spooky’
stories and she explores people’s belief in angels.
The ghostly theme is set to continue on November 22 with a special
military ghost talk at the museum.
The talk features RAF Hornchurch, current day activity across old UK
airbases and frontline stories.
You will also hear the fascinating story of the doomed German
submarine.
Ellen said “The Haunted Havering exhibition is excellent and not only
looks at paranormal activity of today but Havering’s eccentrics and
historic tales of witchcraft and folklore.
“The ghosts, spirits and angel section is very intriguing and thanks
to Upminster Golf Club and Luke Norris, local medium, we have a great
opportunity to explore the topic of ‘orbs’ which are balls of energy
which spirits travel in. This is truly a very unique and creative
exhibition.”
All tickets are £5.00 and can be obtained by telephoning 01708 766571
or e-mailing
hmmar...@btconnect.com. Tickets can also be brought
