Hi all .
Just returned from an Easter trip to the Gove Peninsula , visiting
family and friends and getting into some hunting .
Was after a good buff and the big boars that area is well known for .
Seems they have had a better wet season than we had here , there is a
lot of water in the swamps , plenty of vampire sized mosquitos as well ,
must have given up a few litres of blood in tne two days we were hunting
. Not coming home with a good trophy put a damper on things , but with
all the water laying around the animals have a lot of places to hide .
Still had a good look at good country and a few places to check out later.
I'll be heading back in mid July , hope fully things will be a bit dryer
and buff and pigs will hang closer to the available water.

Thanks for the report. Fingers X'ed when you go back, you'll be able to
get a few critters. Must be hard going for such a long trip, and coming
home empty handed...

Meanwhile, at the other end of the continent... ;-D

Spent the Easter weekend in Gippsland at my weekender...
Roos seemed a bit more scarce than usual, few wallabies, a few baby
rabbits getting around, some young fox, and lo-and-behold...

...one of the boys came back from a 3.5 hour deer stalk to report he's
seen cat prints.

yes rod, CAT prints. :-)

Where's that cat food... :-)

Nhulunbuy is 724 ks from where I live so its around 6-8 hour drive
depending on the road which is mostly dirt.
There were two graders working in different parts on the return trip so
it was a bit quicker on the way home.

Well I did get a roo , but I used the Nissan to clobber it ,
unintentionally , fortunately the bull bar knocked him flying and only
suffered a broken led indicator /parking light in the bar.
Mostly see a lot of agile wallabies , but this one was a larger
antilopine roo , about the same size as an eastern grey.

Plenty of feral moggies around here if Rod runs short at his place.
Hopefully I will have my 222 Rimmed up and running soon , ZMax 50gn
Hornady projectiles should be a good feral dog and cat devastator .

8 hours on a dirt road.. no thanks. I did Mt Hotham to Dargo on the
alpine road in an XG falcon ute. Ran out of brakes after being shaken to
buggery. thank God there's a pub at the end.. :)

we get quite a few roo's , and esp since it started raining again in
2012/13.. I actually had one (big grey) stand in front of me and "puff"
it's chest out.. well, thats a red flag to a bull.. I stomped on the go
pedal, and the stupid bastard jumped out of the way at the last
minute... lucky for him, but I'm keeping my eye out... :-)

last I heard he hadnt shot a cat for 18 months. Sent him an email, never
got a reply... maybe busy with the drought an' all..
