Hi All,

I have seriously been considering selling my 1979 Winchester 9422M XTR in .22 magnum to fund a new rifle in .17hmr.

Have been reading and watching reviews about the hmr and they have all been very positive. Very quick destructive little round.

Hmr ammo is a bit more than the magnum ammo but I don't blaze away wasting ammo each time I shoot it. I still have about 6 packets of magnum ammo I bought in a brick about 6 years ago.

Would be looking at a CZ 455 American.

Interested in your thoughts on the 17hmr.

Cheers,
Clayton.

Have you looked at the 17 Hornet? Reloadable and savage, ruger and CZ
chambered rifles for it. Any older hornet could be re-barreled.

Cheers

Marko

Win Power Points are the go.. but I'll try a couple, and if you wish to
sell the ammo seperatly, let me know. ZI need to fit that 3-9 Leopold to
my lever action .22mag anyway, so it may all work out...

Whilst I have your attention, apparently the bulldozers start tommorow.
Dunno if you met/remember Doc, the bulldozer operator that widened the
track/firebreak/landing strip/international airport!, he rang today
asking for some firewood. Like there's a shortage! :-D

I reminded Doc about ripping a trench down to the new dam: he knew
nothing about it! His boss (jack) must have been still pissed after the
tractor pull... :-D

Marko I was looking for a replacement rimfire for the 22mag that has a bit more reach and flatter shooting.

17HMR would be my choice for a 17 rimfire. With a 17 Hornet, you get
faster, flatter, harder hitting out 200+ metres, plus very cheap to reload.
The trajectory is the same as a 223 55gr load.

I have a .204 to cater for everything else until the .308 is required.

Ended up selling the Winchester 9422M to a farmer up in north Queensland and no it wasn't Rod.

I have ordered a sako finnfire II which should arrive at the gun shop any day now.

There are so many options for rings and bases but I have settled on optilocks which I have used on all my tikka rifles. Buy once cry once ;)

Ammo also sold to fund some new hmr ammo.

Took the sako down to little river today to sight it in and the results were better than expected.

Both Hornady 17gr V-max and CCI 17gr V-max grouped well at 50 and 100 metres and both had the same point of impact.

Also tried federal 17gr hollow points which grouped pretty well.

Wind was blowing on and off from left to right and at 100 the projectiles were off by an inch.

Gee, as you know, I'm a fan of federal ammo if I dont have your
reloads available, but those Hornady's at 100 metres... Whoah!! :)
