Anyway here's my favourites....
ALL IN BRAWLS
1. 1995 Match 2 - This would have to be my favourite. It seemed to go on
for ever.
It erupted from a scrum in the opening minutes, everybody raced in. Images
of Harragon & Allen, Sedaris & Bartrim, Barnhill & B.Moore, & even Manly
teamates Hopoate & D.Moore going hammer and thongs. Although it was in the
middle of the ARL v Superleague war, and only ARL players were on display,
the match and more specifically the fight was in true Origin spirit.
2. 1991 Match 2 - The infamous brawl that led to the Geyer-Lewis
confrontation. It happened on the brink of half time & had be on the cards
for the whole first half. Geyer was being hit left, right, & centre by the
likes of Lewis, Coyne, and Andrew Gee. Elias & S.Walters also battled in
a seperate area, and again club teamates were getting physical as Ricky
Styart & Gary Coyne were about to square off.
The images that followed the stoush will go down in Origin folklaw.
3. 1984 Match 2 - After only a matter of seconds it was on in this one.
It was the incident where Chris Close's jersey was ripped off by Ray Price.
Taugh guys Roach, Tunks, & Dowling were in the thick of this one.
ONE ON ONE'S
1. 1993 Match 3 (I think) - How can you go past Harragon v Bella for the
best one-on-one scrap. Harragon gave his oppersite a dead set hiding,
landing many solid punches. To Bella's credit however he kept comming back
for more. During the course of that fight, Elias & S.Walters once again
decided to settle a few differences of their own.
Result - Harragon by a mile.
2. 1985 Match 3 - Dowling v Jarvis - Again this occured during an early
scrum. Dowling and Jarvis emerged trading blows for atleast 30 seconds.
All while Jeff Fenech was cheering Jarvis on from the sidelines.
Result - Jarvis narrowly
3.(Equal) 1995 Match 2 - Harragon v Allen - After their part in the all in
brawl mentioned above Harragon & Allen decided to go at it individually. A
brawl which saw Gavin Allen leave the field, face streaming with blood.
Result - Harragon easy.
3.(Equal) 1993 Match 3 (I think) - Sirenon v D.Smith - This time towards
the end of the match Sirenon and reserve foward Darren Smith decided to
have a bit of a blue with Sironed clearly taking the honers.
Result - Sirro
It seems to me that the New South Welshmen seem to come out on top when the
boys decide to roll up their sleaves.
Any other famous 'encounters' that I have missed out.
Cheers,
Ben

I remember more fondly the times when smaller guys have been fouled somehow
and totally lose it, not caring if the ref sees them. They come out
swinging and mean, often landing some good hits on much bigger opponents.
I'm not sure of the actual games, but I've seen some classics by Steve
Mortimer, Andrew Johns and once Peter Sterling. The death or glory looks on
their faces are priceless.
You forgot the one-to-one Wally and Roach, I think it was Lewis's last year
in Origin, at Lang Park when Lewis belted Roach (the so-called hard man) so
many times Roach had to get 30 odd stiches in his head. The emporer never
got a mark on him.
Of course your biased comments ignore the individual stouches in 1980-82
when there wasn't a decent defence displayed by any of the Blues, ask Mick
Cronin. Finally in the case of Walters v. Back-Door Benny, Walters won
them all.

Sheesh. That fight was airswings galore, by both of them. Did Bella
even land one on Harrigon?

Andrew Johns? I don't remember him dealing out any decent blows. I
still fondly remember Jamie Goddard giving him a beauty a couple of
years ago in one of the Origins.

Hookers Jamie Goddard & Andrew Johns had previously been involved in
an incident where Goddard reacted to a Johns tackle and held Joey on the
ground, viciously attacking his head. During the second fight from the
scrum, Goddard again hurt Johns, so when referee Manson broke it up, Johns
crept behind the ref's back for revenge. He swung wildly before Goddard laid
a straight hard jab and nearly knocked his head off.
Suspension was appropriate, but how many stitches did Johns need?

Bloody ripper to see the ref getting his just deserts for a change.

Is that the same Craig Smith who played for the Kiwi's last year?
