Having entirely too much time on my hands this evening, what with the wife
watching her insufferable NCIS upstairs, I decided to have a bit off a
looksie at Google Maps. And what the hell, I did a bit of playing. I copped
a cricket ball to the nads this evening, so there's not a lot else to do.
I thought to myself, "Self, you're God, where do you want NRL clubs?" Well,
I'd like to see the following:
a) Bring back players, from ESL, rugby, et cetera
b) have enough salary money in the game to keep players in the NRL in the
first place
c) redress the stupidity of some teams playing each other more than other
teams, even though I like the local derby focus of recent times
d) expand the game
And this is what I came up with. A 24-team competition, mooted around a
two-year home and away draw. 23 rounds of regular season, with three split
rounds for Origin, followed by a top 8 finals series. 8 of 24 is much more
respectable than 8 of 16.
12 games per round makes the TV rights more valuable, too.
Expansion teams:
Adelaide (sure to arouse some comments)
Perth
Christchurch
Port Moresby
Brisbane South
Redcliffe/Sunshine Coast
Central Qld
Gosford
Check out my Google Maps thingy:

What do ya's reckon? I done good? I'm not emotionally attached to these
Google Maps pins, so if you don't like 'em, feel free to say why!
The Darwin Football Stadium opened in mid-2007 at the Marrara Sporting
Precinct. The new stadium provides Darwin with an international standard
football (soccer) facility. The complex includes two full sized football
fields. The main field includes a grandstand with seating for a little over
1,000 as well as floodlighting suitable for night matches. The total
capacity is around 5,000. The stadium was officially opened on Saturday 28th
July 2007 when it played host to an A-League Pre-Season Cup game between
Perth Glory and Melbourne Victory.
Darwin's population: 120,000.
Not generally regarded as a powerhouse of rugby league support, is it?
More then the Roosters
Fucking hell, state the obvious...
