Sex, Drugs, The Spa Party And A League Star
By Brooke Williamson
28may02

ALLEGATIONS of swinging parties, drug use, infidelity and the marriage of
high profile rugby league personality Sean Garlick were explored in a Sydney
court room yesterday.

Nathan and Sean Garlick (l-r) leave the Downing Centre Court. News Photo
More national news The soap opera-like revelations came at a hearing in the
Downing Centre Local Court in which Garlick, South Sydney's football
manager, and his younger brother Nathan are accused of malicious damage and
assault on Jamie Killorn, husband of their cousin Shannon Killorn.

The court heard on the night of April 14 last year that Garlick was hiding
in the backyard of the Killorns' Pagewood home for several hours, covertly
watching six party-goers frolicking in the backyard spa and allegedly
snorting cocaine.

It was said Garlick's wife Samantha was also in the spa and was kissing
Nathan Wright, a friend of the Killorns with whom she had been having an
affair.

The next day Garlick, a serving police officer at the time, went to the
Pagewood house with his brother to confront the Killorns about getting
Samantha into an alleged swingers' party with drugs.

In his testimony, Mr Killorn said he was lying on the bed with his two
infant children when the Garlick brothers burst into the bedroom and started
hitting and kicking him. He said he was dragged into the hallway, where he
lay cowering as the two men continued to beat him. He said he saw an axe
lying on the ground and grabbed it and held it under his armpit so they
could not use it.

"I just thought of the kids, I just wanted to be a father at the end of the
day," he told the court.

But in cross-examination, defence counsel Robert Baker put a different
scenario to him. He said Garlick had come around to discuss the previous
night's activities, and had asked him to step out into the backyard to talk
away from the children.

"I put it to you that you went off the deck and then down the side [passage]
and came back with an axe," Mr Baker said.

"Then you said . . . well go on then, c . . ., if you want to have a go,
have a go now. I bet you wish you had your gun now, don't you. Come on, you
copper c . . ., have a go now."

Mr Baker then accused Mr Killorn of motioning towards Garlick with the axe,
and pushing him into the house which was where Nathan Garlick tackled him.

He said the pair acted in self-defence to wrestle the axe away from him.

"No, that's false," Mr Killorn replied.

Mr Baker also said Mr Killorn had failed to mention the presence of an axe
when he made his first statement to police, on the afternoon of the alleged
assault.

Mr Baker also accused Mr Killorn of ingesting cocaine at the party, and
suggested he offered drugs to Mrs Garlick.

Mr Killorn denied this, but in a blood test taken after he reported the
assault to police, traces of cocaine were found.

The hearing continues.

Perhaps Sean Garlick would have been better served by making use of the
aforementioned axe on his meddling, scheming wife. The guy she was cheating
with didn't have any responsibility to Sean, whereas Samantha did.

Either way, if Garlick had taken both of their heads off, I wouldn't have
been greatly concerned.

Cheers

Without hearing details of the evidence but having had considerable
experience with people who have a brainful of cocaine, I tend towards Sean
Garlick's version of the story. Sounds like he may have made the mistake of
thinking he was marrying a nice conservative girl only to find she likes a
party and probably knows her way around a dick. Sorry tale.

How about doing an ASR-L Friday job on the Eels match CP?

It doesn't get much more vivid or colourful than that, all welcome of

We don't live to far away from Toowong so if you want a lift to the ground
let me know Debs. Also have a ticket if you need one.

Be great to catch up with you Deb. We usually get together for a
quiet, dignified ale <chortle> in town about half five and split a
maxi cab down to the ground - depending on how many turn up.

ANZ's a prick of a joint to get in and out of at the best of times,
and I'm guessing the crowd will be a fair size for this match, but the
shuttle back from town should see you easily able to hit your mattress
by 10:30 in Toowong. No drama really.

Buses leave from the city regularly. If there are enough pasengers, a
taxi isn't a budget-buggerer either.

Actually, Ticktek sent me 4 identical individual tickets, none of them
specify adult or child. They simply say "General Admission".

I stayed not far from there (Auchenflower - 15 min stroll away).....
frequent rail service to the city too. I think ANZ is tricky to get to
on public transport though from anywhere.

Thanks. But no thanks.

I already have tickets, Eastern Stand, section 11, row L, for
myself and a few Rocky friends.

Actually had three spare (or two if my brother gets down there

I was going to offer them to yourself, CP, and Goose, but

I'll be wearing it to the Origin as I have been requested to do
so.

I'll also be giving my Raiders jacket a run.

Well my bro is still undecided on whether he'll be going down to
Brisbane for the weekend. It seems like he will, but he's got
assignments due and exams are on very soon.

I'll be leaving in just over 24 hours, so I'll keep 'n or Swanny
posted on that ticket.

(OK OK I pasted & unwrapped)

I'd run too if I went out in public like that...

I know. You'd rather hop out of a cab into public with a ladies
handbag.

No, you've got it wrong.

When I'm carrying it, it's a *man's* bag.

And a man's skirt, blouse, tasteful pastel-shaded low-heeled
sling-backs w/- matching belt and amethyst ear-rings.

You northerners are soooooooo declasse...
