Don't let facts or commonsense get in the way of an your argument.
1.) Stadium Australia's capacity is 110 000
2.) You'd be lucky to find 110 000 Rugby fans in Australia. Projections are
for a crowd of about 85 000. This whole "World's biggest rugby crowd" is
hyperbole. There have been rugby matches in SA that have drawn 135 000
people.
3.) New Zealanders are only competitive in Rugby Union because the majority
of the world doesn't care about the sport. Think about it, this is New
Zealand we're talking about - two crap little islands with the population of
a Sydney pub on a friday night.
So numbers imply quality? How many records did Tiny Tim sell?
Cheers,
Shark.
> Ever seen gridiron?
I sure have. Just saw the Yankee Bowl t'day. The actual game, as you said, bored
me to shits, but the cheerleaders... I'd pay just to see them dance and wave
their pompoms for 2 hours.

Funny you say that Hitter, I can recall you stating that you played in your
school's 2nd XV, now that was rugby union right.
Conseqeuntly by your above statement you are a little wimpy pussy.

Oh, so THIS is your killer point? OF COURSE THEY CARE LESS ABOUT RUGBY
LEAGUE. League is nothing. Union is nothing. These sports are nothing on
they scale of World sport. That is how NZ can be competitive. Go figure,
dickhead. Have you seen New Zealand win any Soccer World Cups? Didn't they
cart off they greatest number at the last Olympics? No? They didn't? You're
kidding, aren't you?
Go fuck yourself, Calum. Some people might run the old "Game played in
Heaven" crap, or "The Greatest Game of All" shite. You're probably stupid
enough to buy it.
Real League fans know how much hard work this is ahead to gain credibility
on a world stage. Pretentious Union wankers believe that their lopsided
penalty-fests are the pinnacle of world sport.
But he's right though. You are an idiot.
Troy
I didn't see you arguing against any of the points, though. What's wrong, Mr
Genius, couldn't you argue against any of the points? No, not without

Incorrect on both counts. The Bledisloe on 28 August was sold out within 2
or 3
working days. The only thing that will prevent the 'House Full' sign at
Stadium
Australia will be mass lassitude on the part of members and that's unlikely.
This whole "World's biggest rugby crowd" is

That is not correct, unless there was a Rugby match happening at one of
Mandela's pre election appearances. There is not and never has been a
Stadium in the Republic
capable of housing that many people. Suggest you visit one of the RU stats
sites to confirm World Record attendances.
I would dispute

It's your prerogative to disslike Rugby, but this is an indelicate way of
promoting that
view. NZ'ers are good at Rugby because they have the perfect system of
extracting
and nurturing talent, from junior through NPC, Super 12 and on to AB level.
They
have the most qualified and technical coaches in the World. There is no more
powerful
sight in Rugby than the 10 man approach they recently used against
Australia.
Their population is 4 mill, so I wouldn't mind the Friday night takings from
that pub
you mentioned.

I'll have the answer for you as to which match it was in a few hours. I see
to remember it was a SA - Britain match played before SA were blacklisted
from international comeptition.

The only time League is worse then another sport is when they are

Finally, we come to the source of Calum's malaise. The overriding desire to
fuck himself, and his inability to do it. This evidently stems from his
formative years, at which time everyone, including his parents, told him to
go fuck himself. And he thought - "I'd be accepted, and maybe even loved if
I could do what everyone wanted me to do."
Unfortunately, he couldn't. And this caused deep feelings of resentment and
inner conflict. His defense mechanisms forced him to compensate and thus
protect his precarious mental state by becoming a prize dickhead.

I think you'll find that a lot of the reason why many of the NZ posters
hate RU is that it's forced down your throat from an early age. Since
moving to England I've started enjoying watching RU, something that I
just couldn't stomach in NZ. I really enjoy watching Wales play ...
must be something about the number of criminal convictions :-)
My fiance (who's English) and I were in NZ recently and she was amazed
at how pervasive the All Blacks were. She's had first hand experience
of South Africa's obsession with the Springboks too and apparently there
is no comparison.
Maybe if a few of the other NZers were able to get some space from RU
they'd start to enjoy it.
Richard.
hehe, he didn't reply to that one though!!
Richard.
<snipt lots of stuff that tended to confirm my suspicions>
Here in Qld, the 15 - a -side game (can't say the R-word, don't want to
upset SiD) wasn't, until relatively recent times, all that popular except
for private school kiddies. Even there, the caveat needs to be added that
'private school boy' does not equal 'rich boy, especially in this context.
Up here, many (but not all) of the Catholic boys schools played Un ......the
other game...rather than league.
This helps explain why names such Moon, Lynagh, McLean (2 of 'em) and all
the other paddies featured so strongly in local and Oz R teams, as opposed
to the usual upper-class-twit transplanted poms.
One consequence of this was that there wasn't the depth of animosity between
league's (mainly) working-clas supporters and the Other Games supporters as
was common elsewhere.
Another was the high "conversion rate" between the codes. It's relatively
well-known that Wally Lewis (although not a mick school attendee) was
ex-othergame and Michael O'Connor needs no further explanation, but in
addition, ex-Broncos, Parra and (IIRC) Gold Coast boofhead Brett Plowman,
Broncos winger Willy Carne and the excellent Craig Polla-Mounter all were
ex-othergame lads from Ipswich Boys grammar ( my Dad's old school).
