My picks:
Team to fall: Port to just make the 8
Team to rise: Essendon who should make the top 4.
2003 Ladder after regular season
Port Adelaide 22 72 127.22
Collingwood 22 60 121.58
Brisbane 22 58 123.3
Sydney 22 56 115.03
Fremantle 22 56 103.12
Adelaide 22 52 118.97
West Coast 22 52 117.35
Essendon 22 52 111.73

Hawthorn 22 48 100.6
Kangaroos 22 46 98.29
St Kilda 22 44 95.79
Geelong 22 30 89.82
Richmond 22 28 88.83
Melbourne 22 20 81.01
Carlton 22 16 66.71
Western Bulldogs
Why do you say that about Essendon dude ..........
Just think they have a great mix of youth and senior players and a coach
who knows how to get the best of them. Not saying they will win the flag
but they are not without a chance. Also, I think Lloyd is set for a big
one. This time last year I was saying they wouldnt make the 8 and I was
pretty much right :)
a.
Port to fall out of the top four and Sydney to miss the eight.
No basis for these predictions other than I felt they both overachieved in
the H/A rounds last season.
Essendon is better than eighth on paper. Melb, Geelong, Carlton, Doggies
to improve markedly. Richmond and Hawks to promise much but deliver little.
Saints are about four wins off what they could achieve with a coach.
Kangas are undermanned and will finish bottom four. WCE are flying
on the track and could make top four if their key players stay fit,
unlike last year.
Freo will have a tougher year with no real additions apart from drafted
talent
(which every team has) so will need players to go up a level. Adelaide
need
Carey to fire if they want to reach top 4, especially with Stevens gone.
As far as ladder posi goes:
Biggest fallers - Port, Sydney.
Biggest risers - Ess, Doggies

West Coast may peak too early like last year.

Stevens missing is a huge loss but we played most of last year without
him and we lost alot of close games that if they go our way this year is
the difference between bottom 4 and top 4.

Big call on the doggies.

I think Carlton will finish last ..............other than being more
competitive they will lose most of their games in my opinion ........

I think Saintsc will start to deliver this year , and rise right up the
ladder .top 6
Falling: Port (1st to about 6th)and Collingwood (2nd to 8th...maybe
worse)
Rising: Western Bulldogs (16th to 8th :>)) Carlton, (15th to 11th)
Hooroo.....

Well they've acquired some decent talls - now the question is, *was* the
problem last year the lack of talls? I think it was, and they should come up
as a result. If the problems were slightly more endemic (for example, I
don't care what stats say, West was distinctly substandard last year -
little of the class that made him shine previously) then they may go badly.

Should have done it last year. Losing to frickin' Carlton and,
shockingly, to Richmond*, cost us 2nd or 3rd place -- and that's
despite us having a fairly middling year!
Port will make the eight comfy, there's got to be ten teams worse than
them!
* Undeniably our worst game since... well, I dunno. Did we have
anything that bad in 1997, when we finished 14th? But at least those
who stayed got to see a speccy!

I'd like to see Collingwood 'rise' (can only go one better)... but I think
we'll fall off and have a mediocre year, 6-8.
Port will drop I think.. but still scrape for the 8.

Smartass :)
Fucken hell dude don't say shit like that while I'm around. :)
Bit hard to go up the ladder (any team) when your not allowed quality young
draft picks .......but you never know dude ..

Rounds 16 and 17 (Carlton and Port) were both shockers, on a par with
last year's Richmond loss.
Sydney to scrape into or just miss the eight - down 4-6 places.
Kangas should finish bottom two - down 5-6 places.
A few others to fall - Port, Freo, Pies, Richmond - 1-3 places.
West Coast, finish top three - up 4-5 places. (Top two for most of
the season but peaking too early.)
Saints finish 6-8th - up 3-5 places.
Dons up a couple, in their last good year for a while.
Doggies finish out of the eight, up 4-6 places.
Bergholt.
The Eagles lost Gardiner around the middle of the year, when he was the
best ruckman going
around and their midfield was the best for centre clearances - oh and
everyone was tipping them
for a GF berth.

Nah, safe call there i think. They had a horror run with injuries last
year and were a bit
of a surprise as wooden spooners.. Not sure if they can get in the
eight but I think they
can do far better this year.
deker19
If they don't, Thomas has to go. He's the only reason I haven't picked
them to be doing better,
and possibly the only reason besides key injuries why they aren't doing
better.

I just think the Blues have brought in a lot of experience to offset the
lack of draft picks. It doesn't help
much for the future, but for right now, it makes them a bit more
competitive. It looks like the club
are going for stability in the absence of a chance for excellence, and
considering the hole they were in,
it's a good way to keep the members happy and get the ship back on
course. They have a better list
than the team who won four games last year. Downside - no Murphy or
McKernan and Kouta not 100%,
Upside: Stevens and other capable recruits - and morale must be a lot
higher than in previous years.
Wildcard - Setanta O'hAilpin
deker19
Outside of Stevens ......... all others are cot offs from other clubs and
they got rid of some reasonable players ............... for me they will
battle .............
I still put them outside the 8 but they will improve. Time will tell...
Fallers: Freo, Adelaide. Freo because I don't think they can back up 2003,
though now they'll probably finish 2nd. Adelaide are due for a shocker...
can feel it :) (There's some rock solid reasons!)
Risers: Geelong, Carlton. Cats are a bit like the saints, except they have a
coach coaching them, rather than cornflakes, I reckon they'll finish 6th.
Carlton have many many 2nd tier players capable of performing week in week
out and getting the job done serviceably... They'll go close to 7th-8th
spot.
I think we'll do well also... but I'm not putting that on record in fear of
my bias coming to fore. :)
Scotland is a top player, never got a chance to prove himself completely at
the Pies. He'll do well..

Hooroo.....
I like Scotland too , but he was a spare parts man and only used as a back
up (fill in player) like most of the recruits Carlton picked up ..........
Every club seems to have one of these types , correct very frustrating
