Seeing the Crow supporters here are so loud, and full of moral indignation,
about players doing the wrong thing in public, breaking the law, and having
altercations with the police, I assume they'll be just as vociferous and as
quick to delist one of their own, as they are players of other teams.

Yep he had a car accident and was stupid enough to
try and get out of it. Why? has to be the question.
surely he can afford the rise in his premiums.
the Cops have it in hand and the club are looking into it.
too early to comment on his actions or the penaties
but he does seem to have had a brain fade.

Still waiting for the Sanctimonious verdict. If this was a Port player (or
any non-TROSA player for that matter) he would have been on here within
minutes of the article appearing, demanding that the player be sacked and
jailed without waiting for due process. The silence is DEAFENING.

If I had my way we'd be trading him to where he belongs - with the rest
of his clan at the Smears. In fact I can see a trqde for Stiffy for
Bogan come seasons end.

What he did was stupid and unforgivable. Although not on the same par
as Mr Repeat Drunken Driver Pickett - your hero - it's still unacceptable.

I know you and Benny The Ball live for my comments to lift your world to
new heights, but you must excuse me - I do have a life and that life
isn't on the net or in this group.

I've made my comment. As for comment - you bastards can't say anything
- you adore Pickett the Piss Head and Burgoyne the Rapist, so when you
start condemming your own criminals then talk to me.

Mmhmm.

Any joke the butt of which is interchangeable based on the teller's personal
prejudices is always going to be somewhat lacking in humour, since true
humour must derive from some element of reality rather than said
interchangeability.

Says the guy who was posting in here late last night wanting a comment
from me. All that's missing is your bum chum Skase, but as the Smears
look towards mising the finals I doubt we'll see much of him. Still
this is the kind of thing that brings him, and the rest of you Smear

Well no the element of the acceptance of a version of reality simply needs
to be shared by the teller and the listener. That's how idiots are able to
share a joke. On the other hand you get gags like...

... which depends on a very peculiar perspective on reality. And I still
haven't found someone else to laugh at that gag.

But that's just the thing: even with the plethora of idiots around here, it
was still pretty much greeted with embarassed silence.

I wouldn't say it depends on a peculiar perspective on reality, just a
certain amount of intestinal fortitude. Everybody knows WHY it's funny, it's
just that many people aren't willing to accept it.

Forget it - down at Alberton Pickett did no wrong. They admire him for
what he did after the grand final - the fact that he did it twice, after
two grand finals, makes them even more proud. They want people to
condemn Johncock for being a fucking idiot, all the time while ignoring
the problems in their own team.

All sounds anti-social to me Mike

BTW, my point was never in any way to mitigate Pickett's offence, I was
merely highlighting the ever so quick reaction of some Crows to call for
Pickett's head.

Here is my response to the Pickett offence, which I wrote on BigFooty on
15/10/2004 at 5.22pm

"Drink Driving == dumb, dumb, dumb

Driving without a licence == bloody dumb

Having a prang whilst doing the above == too stupid for words

Hopefully the courts will deal with him without fear or favour, as it should
always be the case

Don't get me wrong, I want the guy out there playing for Port, but I do not
believe he deserves any extra special consideration, just because he's an
AFL footballer."

It's such a pity that all those born with special sporting & or musical
talents, are not born with commensurate intelligence & common sense. Then
guys like Warne, Millane, Pickett, George Best, Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin,
Keith Moon, ........... the list is almost endless, would only entertain us
with those talents, and not their excesses.

not sure if it's anti-social, Chris... I think he just panicked and did
something stupid (declaring his car stolen). You're wrong with the third
point though - the police themselves denied he was aggressive in any way.

my point (still is) is you can't compare the two, so calls for delisting
etc... are pretty extreme, whereas you could argue that Pickett deserved to
be dealt with severely considering the seriousness of what he did.
