What would it be like, if the media only wrote and reported about on-field
performances of the teams and individual players?

Maybe, the game would look better than what they are making it out to be.

Players are ordinary men and boys, who are thrust into the spotlight by the
media, who then proceed to undermine their abilities.

Put any 20 blokes into a room, fill them with alcohol and you have a room
full of bragging idiots, ready to do battle with anyone, doesn't matter
whether they are football players or the media or Bathurst onlookers.
Alcohol seems to be the ruination of them
Solution is to get rid of alcohol and you get rid of the problem
Or maybe, get rid of the media.

Ever heard journalists relating stories in the pub?

George, you can put 20 decent blokes in a room full of alcohol, but find
that these 20 blokes don't fill THEMSELVES full of alcohol. And of those
that do have a reasonable fill, many will just be a bit pissed but fine.
Mind you, I am aware that, here in the West at least, there appears to be an
increasing amount of post-drinking violence and aggression related mostly, I
think to the night-club scene. However, I have no idea of the analysis of
the socio-economic or demographic factors of those that do create trouble.

Overall, the level of news reported misdemeanours of our footy clubs, as a
ratio of total players is probably quite low, which of course emphasises
the wrongs of those that do make idiots of themselves. The great problem is
that it always reflects upon the club. Many of the reported antics are
events related to personal social activities and as such, worth little.
Fevola's pissing on a window is really just minor issue but one compounded
by repeated reported stupid acts. His public peformance at the Brownlow was
a major embarrassment to him, club and AFL. His assualt on an Irish barman
was a serious action, an offence that for most of us could or would have
resulted in at least a night in the lock-up. It was of course compounded by
him being a representative of an official national sporting team and thus a
potential embarassment to the country.

Fevola's problem is that, like ex-WCE's Cousins, he is a target of the media
and has repeated reports of off-field incidents that have embarassed his
club. Just how popular he is with colleagues at club level I don't know. But
I do wonder how much influence Judd had in his leaving. I reckon Judd does
have huge influence and personally believe that he has no love of Fevola.

It is a shame for the club as on his day, Fevola is a very good player, who
displayes superb footballing abilities. I do wonder about his intelectual
level and it seems to me that he is the eptomy of a person whose brains are
in his feet, not in his head.

Now the issue is over, I wish him all the best. He has the opportunity of
starting afresh. Let's hope for his sake he makes the most of it. If not, I
hope for his sake he has not totally wasted his huge financial returns from
football on alcohol or drugs or both. Because, unless he changes his ways,
there might not be much for him after footy.

A hell of a lot seems to happen at night clubs
maybe, shut them down ?

Very true, personal matters should be left apart from club matters,
Wayne Carey immediately comes to mind

As I have said elsewhere, this happens every night after aforesaid night
club events

>His public peformance at the Brownlow was a major embarrassment to him,

The cameramen and the TV director, should have woken up to the fact that Fev
was pissed as a newt and should not have focussed the camera on him as much
as they did.

Happens almost every night in pubs around Melbourne but,
there are two sides to every story, such as, did the Irish barman goad Fev
into a fight?
Not sticking up for Fev, he is big enough and ugly enough to stick up for
himself.

I tend to agree with you on that about Judd, he appears to be a smart-arse
Which other player have been transferred to another club,
then within a whisker of time, they are made captain of that club ?

Give an average person, news coverage and constant reporters hounding them
all the time, most of them will crack and do something out of the ordinary

I believe that last sentance should have read 'It was of course compounded
by
him being a representative of a duplicitous national Gaelic Football
team......'

Please let me know if I need to 'pop' any more illusions for you

What illusions? Immaterial. The AFL sanctioned the team and form of the
game, whatever you want to call it.
