LOST AUTHOR
Gerbil <ja...@bleckly.com> noted on the Eidolist "I
picked up a copy of an old SF magazine today and it has an
Australian author in it who I don't know anything about. I was
hoping someone on the list would know some more about them.
They're not listed in the MUP Oz SF Encyclopedia. The author is
R. Whitfield Young his(?) story 'The Locusts' appears in Science
Fantasy magazine Vol 10 No 28 1958 edited by John Carnell. If
anyone knows any more about this author I'd be interested to
know. "
FAN FUNDS
Jean Weber reports "Eric Lindsay and Jean Weber
finished the official portion of their GUFF trip on 14 May when
they flew out of the UK after a 6-week visit. They then attended
Jean's mother's 80th birthday celebrations in Lacey, near
Seattle, on 21 May, and will be attending Wiscon in Madison on
the last weekend in May. After that, Eric returns to Australia
while Jean spends another 3 weeks with her mother, returning at
the end of June.
Eric and Jean's GUFF website already includes early
versions of several instalments of their trip report. Revisions,
including photographs, will be posted as soon as possible
(probably in June). Several chapters (probably quite different
from the Web version, after Jean edits and revises Eric's
drafts) will appear in UK fanzines, and eventually a collected,
printed edition will also be available. Donations to GUFF can
also be made through the Website.
http://psiphi.server101.com/guff/
Calls for nominations for a Europe-Australasia race will
be announced soon by Paul Kincaid, the UK administrator, with
the winner to attend the 2002 NatCon in either Australia or New
Zealand or preferably both. "
AUSTRALIAN TREK FOUNDER DIES
Susan Batho reports "Just letting people know that Jenny
Kentwell, one of the founding members of DUSK Star Trek Club in
1969, then ASTREX in 1973, also founding editor of Beyond
Antares (which is still in existence) died in her sleep on the
20th of May"

ELECTRONIC STUFF
John Foyster reports "It's been a few months since eFNAC
appeared, and some changes have happened. First, although copies
will still be available directly by email from me, I'm not
sending the 3 issues noted below out that way immediately. If
you want your copies by email, let me know and I'll email 'em to
you, as before. The reason for this emerges from what follows,
in part. Second, there's a "security" element now in place at
http://efnac.virtualave.net which is where you can download the
three latest issues. The "security" is that when you try to
download a file, you need to enter a username and a password,
which are "efnac" and "scrambledeggs". The security has been put
there to make eFNAC a private fanzine that is nevertheless
publicly available. Recently search engines have begun to read
and index PDF files and that makes the contents of a PDF fanzine
on the web much more public. That's not the traditional way
fanzines have been available. I've gone for this approach -
actually, Erika Lacey does all the work, as usual - because it
looks like it might be a simple way to distribute my illustrated
GUFF report and still raise some money for GUFF. I suppose I
should consult the GUFF administrators about this... Any moment
now!
Next issue, July, will re-new my attempts to review a
few e-zines and a return to Allan Bray's photos."

LETTERATURE
After a long retirement, the Rogers Street Laundry Door
has opened again to send the following missive
"Enthusiasts of the life and works of prominent Western
Australian fan Grant "Tugger" Watson were disappointed in his
performance in the 2001 Ditmars.
"Tugger" was the winner only in the Best Fan Artist and
Best Fan Production categories, and a co-winner of the William
Atheling Award. He failed to get a clean sweep of the fan awards
when he lost out to Robin Pen in the Fan Writer category
(probably some hanging chads in there somewhere). Those left
struggling in his foaming wake: DUFF winner Cathy Cupitt, Bruce
Gillespie, Russell Blackford, Damien Broderick, etc. etc.
Readers temporarily unfamiliar with the name "Grant
Watson" and his works may recall the following passage in Paper
Snarl 12 in which Yvonne Rousseau noted, concerning the
activities of the administrator of the 2000 Ditmars:
"The unlikely secret students of Thomas Aquinas,
perhaps, they took their stand on Invincible Ignorance
(impossible for them to know about tedious "fannish traditions")
-- but ultimately they were unable to ward off enlightenment
about the ethical position of a DitSubCom accepting nominations
for his own work."
where, of course, "his" = "Grant Watson's". Curiously
enough, "Tugger" was not nominated this time around for his
efforts in handling the 2000 Ditmars.
Rogers S. L. Door.
CLIVE NEWALL <cli...@optushome.com.au> points out my typo in
the previous Bullsheet regarding the World Costuming Convention
in Australia which is, of course in 2002, not in 2001. He
continues "reBroderick on "Aftershock": Damien didn't note that
while his co-panelists were identified by what they did for a
crust (Director of something & computer programmer) he was
identified only as "Melbourne University". I guess "SF author"
would have damaged any credibility he might have had. :-)"
